What Does a Process Control and Optimization Engineer Do at Tüpraş?

The Process Optimization and Digitalization Department at Tüpraş Head Office designs processes and systems that deliver maximum efficiency at minimum cost, in line with refinery dynamics, flexibility, and constraints.

In this context, the department carries out technical work in LP modeling, process simulation, advanced process control, automation, optimization, and digital transformation.

As part of the department, the Process Control and Optimization Engineer plays an active role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of automation, advanced process control, and optimization technologies to:

  • Increase efficiency in production processes,
  • Improve energy efficiency and minimize costs,
  • Ensure process safety and protect the environment.
  • The engineer also manages these processes and ensures coordination across refineries.


Job Description

  • Define and develop automation and advanced process control targets aligned with the Production Strategy Plan.
  • Monitor APC and Alarm Management KPIs and analyze improvement opportunities.
  • Create and follow up refinery roadmaps for real-time optimization (RTO, RWO) and advanced process control technologies.
  • Participate in project management processes such as feasibility, modeling, commissioning, and post-commissioning performance analysis for APC projects at refineries.
  • Collaborate with refinery APC teams to develop quality prediction models that support process control and optimization.
  • Work with refinery APC teams to build data-driven or principle-based system and process models for control and optimization purposes.
  • Lead PoC and internal digitalization efforts for real-time optimization, machine learning, and AI-based process control technologies that enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Review and develop procedures and standards for process automation and control workflows.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Control Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Preferably experienced in process control software such as Honeywell Profit Suite or Aspen DMC+.
  • Preferably knowledgeable in instrumentation, industrial automation, and DCS systems (e.g., Yokogawa, Honeywell).
  • Preferably familiar with alarm management standards, KPIs, and systems.
  • Preferably has refinery experience.
  • Preferably experienced in process control and/or optimization applications.
  • Able to work in coordination with domestic/international firms and internal departments.
  • Capable of identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities in complex processes, and initiating and leading solution-oriented projects.
  • Strong team player with effective communication skills.
  • Value-driven and has a lean mindset.
  • Possesses analytical thinking and negotiation skills.
  • Innovative and skilled in problem-solving.
