Role Overview
The Senior Executive – Structural Steel Purchase will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring
structural steel items (beams, channels, angles, plates, flats, hollow sections, etc.)
required for construction, fabrication, and project execution. The role demands strong vendor management, market knowledge, and coordination with internal stakeholders (Projects, Engineering, Stores, and Accounts) to ensure cost-effective and timely availability of material.
Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Sourcing
-
Identify and develop reliable vendors for structural steel (mills, stockists, authorized dealers, traders).

Float inquiries, obtain quotations, and prepare comparative statements (techno-commercial).

Negotiate price, quality, payment terms, and delivery schedules.

Ensure timely order placement and follow-up for material delivery.
2.Vendor & Market Management

Maintain vendor database for structural steel suppliers.

Conduct vendor evaluations and performance monitoring.
Keep track of prevailing steel market trends, rates, and availability.
3.Material Planning & Coordination
-
Coordinate with the Projects/Engineering team for technical requirements (IS specifications, grades, sizes, and sections).

Ensure procurement as per BOQ, project timeline, and quality standards.

Align with Stores/Logistics for delivery schedules and inventory management.
4.
Commercial & Compliance
-
Prepare Purchase Orders (PO) and ensure contract compliance.

Verify and process supplier bills in coordination with Finance/Accounts.

Ensure adherence to company policies, statutory compliances, and audit requirements.
5.Cost Optimization
-
Explore alternate sources to ensure competitive pricing.

Control procurement costs through bulk purchases, rate contracts, and negotiations.
Key Skills & Competencies
-
Strong knowledge of
structural steel sections
(beams, channels, angles, flats, hollow sections, plates).

Good understanding of steel specifications (IS codes, grades).

Vendor development and negotiation skills.

Knowledge of SAP is Mandatory

Strong communication, coordination, and analytical skills.
Qualification & Experience
-
Graduate in Engineering (Mechanical ) or Graduate with PG in Materials Management / Supply Chain.

5–8 years of experience
in steel procurement, preferably in EPC, construction, fabrication, or steel-intensive industries.

Exposure to vendor management and contract negotiations.
