We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our finance team. Duties
- Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure adherence to financial plans using advanced accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or PeopleSoft.
- Prepare detailed financial statements and reports that interpret project financial data for stakeholders, utilizing GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct account reconciliations including balance sheet reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation to maintain data integrity.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections aligned with project timelines.
- Perform cash flow analysis and forecasting to support project planning and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) regulations where applicable.
- Assist in auditing processes by preparing documentation for internal and external audits, including regulatory reporting requirements.
- Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, accrual accounting, and financial analysis techniques.
- Support governmental accounting practices and non-profit accounting standards as needed for specific projects or grants.
- Collaborate with project managers to review financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate or governmental accounting with a focus on project-based financial management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and relevant tax laws such as securities law or wills, trusts & estate law is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms is essential.
- Demonstrated ability in financial report writing, interpretation of complex financial data, and budget management.
- Familiarity with public accounting practices or private equity environments is advantageous.
- Excellent analytical skills with a solid understanding of financial concepts like debits & credits, accruals, journal entries, and account analysis.
- Ability to mentor team members effectively while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
