Job Purpose
To plan, coordinate, and oversee all mechanical engineering aspects of construction projects, ensuring work is executed in compliance with project specifications, budget, and schedule, while meeting quality and HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Execution
- Review project specifications, IFC drawings, and technical documents to ensure clarity of scope.
- Assist in preparing project execution plans, schedules, and resource requirements for mechanical works (HVAC, plumbing, fire-fighting, piping, etc.).
- Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers for technical submittals, material approvals, and timely deliveries.
2. Site Coordination
- Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Monitor site progress and ensure mechanical works are executed as per approved drawings, method statements, and QA/QC standards.
- Attend coordination meetings with civil, electrical, and architectural teams to resolve technical/site issues.
3. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, local authority regulations, and international codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, etc.).
- Prepare and review inspection requests (IRs), method statements, and material inspection requests (MIRs).
- Conduct inspections and coordinate with QA/QC engineers and consultants for approvals.
4. Cost & Resources Management
- Support in preparing BOQs, cost estimates, and variation claims.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and verify progress invoices.
- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.
5. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure mechanical works comply with HSE requirements and site safety plans.
- Participate in toolbox talks and ensure safety compliance of subcontractors and workers.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project logs including drawings, material approvals, inspection requests, and site instructions.
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports for the Project Manager.
- Provide technical input for as-built drawings and O&M manuals.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, ASHRAE, NFPA, LEED) preferred.
Experience:
- 5–8 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in construction projects (preferably high-rise buildings, infrastructure, or industrial facilities).
- Experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and piping systems.
- Familiarity with GCC construction regulations and authority approvals.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and construction methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Excellent coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (MEP), MS Project/Primavera, and MS Office.
- Strong leadership skills to supervise subcontractors and site teams.
