Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Temp-to-Perm Opportunity (Conversion Expected After 5 Months)

Gallant Business Solutions is seeking a Board-Eligible or Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to support the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) within secure juvenile detention facilities serving Baltimore and surrounding areas.

This role focuses on delivering high-impact psychiatric care to justice-involved youth with complex behavioral health needs, trauma histories, and co-occurring conditions. The Psychiatrist will play a critical role in diagnosis, medication management, crisis response, and interdisciplinary treatment planning.

This is a part time, temp-to-permanent opportunity, with a strong expectation of conversion to permanent status after approximately five (5) months, based on performance and program needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for detained youth
  • Develop and manage individualized psychiatric treatment plans, including medication and therapeutic recommendations
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriateness, effectiveness, and safety
  • Collaborate closely with nursing staff to ensure proper medication administration and compliance
  • Review Medication Administration Records (MARs), laboratory results, and relevant medical documentation
  • Supervise and provide clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioners, as applicable
  • Complete Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) assessments as required
  • Behavioral health staff may assist in tele-psychiatry settings when applicable
  • Provide emergency psychiatric services, including 24/7 on-call coverage
  • Deliver face-to-face psychiatric consultations within one (1) hour of notification when requested
  • Participate in scheduled clinical and interdisciplinary staff meetings
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support psychiatric operations

Required Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
  • Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship preferred
  • Active Maryland medical license in good standing

Required Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum 5 years of psychiatric practice
  • Direct experience working with children and adolescents
  • Prior experience in juvenile justice, detention, inpatient, residential, or forensic settings required
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, adolescent development, and behavioral disorders
  • Ability to function effectively in high-acuity, structured environments
  • Strong collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
  • Reliable transportation required

Pay: $113.00 per hour
