Core Roles and Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management: Identifying, evaluating, and selecting reliable suppliers for raw materials and services, maintaining a qualified vendor database, and conducting performance reviews.
- Negotiation and Contracting: Negotiating contracts, prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal procurement conditions and cost savings.
- Production Material Procurement: Managing the procurement of direct materials (e.g., steel scrap, iron ore) based on production planning (MRP) to ensure 100% material availability.
- Inventory Control & Optimization: Monitoring inventory levels (min/max) to prevent shortages or excess, and coordinating with warehouse teams to ensure proper storage and inventory turnover.
- Logistics & Expediting: Tracking deliveries, handling international shipping logistics (Incoterms), and expediting orders to avoid production delays.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Verifying that incoming materials meet technical specifications and quality standards, linking Material Test Reports (MTRs) to inventory.
- Cost Analysis & Reporting: Analyzing market trends, monitoring price fluctuations, and reporting cost-savings initiatives to management.
- Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of purchase orders (POs), contracts, and invoices in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tekla EPM).
Key Requirements and Skills
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of steel grades, raw materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Tekla EPM) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong abilities to secure favorable pricing and terms.
- Analytical Abilities: Capacity to interpret market trends and analyze purchasing data.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for managing supplier relationships and internal stakeholders (e.g., production, maintenance, engineering).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field, often with 2-5+ years of experience.
Common Performance Metrics (KPIs)
- Cost Savings/Avoidance: Reduction in Purchase Price Variance (PPV).
- On-Time Delivery (OTD): Supplier performance in meeting schedules.
- Inventory Turnover Rate: Efficient management of stock.
