Summary
The CNC Machine Shop Purchasing Assistant provides administrative support for all purchasing activities, focusing on the procurement of raw materials (various metals, plastics), tooling, and shop supplies. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of the manufacturing supply chain to ensure timely and cost-effective material acquisition.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Process purchase orders: Generate, track, and expedite purchase orders to meet production schedules and demand.
  • Vendor communication: Serve as a point of contact for suppliers, following up on orders, resolving delivery and invoicing discrepancies, and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
  • Inventory management: Assist with monitoring stock levels of materials and components, perform cycle counts, and report on inventory status to prevent shortages and excesses.
  • Sourcing and research: Research new vendors and suppliers for materials and services. Obtain quotes and compare offers to ensure the best possible pricing and quality.
  • Logistics coordination: Coordinate with internal departments (production, warehouse, accounting) and external vendors to track shipments and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Administrative support: Maintain organized and accurate purchasing records, files, and databases, including those for contracts, invoices, and supplier information.
Skills and qualifications
  • Experience: Previous experience (1–3 years) in a purchasing, procurement, or administrative role, preferably within a manufacturing or CNC machine shop environment.
  • CNC and materials knowledge: Basic knowledge of different metals, alloys, and plastics used in CNC machining is a significant advantage.
  • Computer proficiency: Strong computer skills are essential, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) ,specifically -JobBOSS/E2 .
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with vendors and internal teams.
  • Organizational skills: High level of organization and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to perform basic calculations, compare prices, and analyze data to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Problem-solving: Resourceful and adaptable, with the ability to resolve issues with orders and deliveries.
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required. An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is often preferred.
