We are seeking a skilled and motivated Purchasing & Receiving Agent to join our CVU (Commercial Vehicle Upfit) division. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted production flow by coordinating the purchase, receipt, and inventory of large truck body assemblies, brackets, accessories, shop materials, and PPE.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing hands-on receiving with vendor negotiations and process improvement. This role will work closely with sales and production teams to anticipate material needs and ensure parts arrive on time.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with sales and production teams to forecast and plan material needs for truck body installations.
- Research and source large assemblies, parts, and accessories; obtain and compare quotes to ensure best value.
- Issue and process purchase orders in alignment with production schedules.
- Negotiate vendor pricing, payment terms, and shipping rates.
- Establish and maintain vendor accounts and relationships to support long-term success.
- Track inbound shipments, manage ETAs, and communicate proactively with production to avoid delays.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments; resolve discrepancies and document damage.
- Enter receipts and purchase order data into the company’s inventory management system.
- Maintain accurate records of packing slips, certifications, waybills, and returns.
- Support and participate in cycle counts, audits, and 5S initiatives to ensure accurate inventory.
- Work closely with fellow purchasing agent to coordinate workload, standardize practices, and implement process improvements.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production and business goals.
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or higher degree in business, supply chain, or related field preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in purchasing, receiving, inventory, or supply chain coordination.
- Prior experience in commercial vehicle, repair shop, or manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of purchasing principles and practices.
- Familiarity with truck body assemblies, brackets, accessories, and shop materials is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); QuickBooks or other inventory systems experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret parts catalogs, quotes, and technical documents.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask under deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license and clean 3-year MVR.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical receiving tasks (standing, bending, reaching).
- Work in shop/warehouse environment with varying temperatures and noise.
