Job Title: QA/QC Engineer – Ship Repair & Fabrication
Location: UAE
Industry: Ship Repair / Marine Engineering / Industrial Fabrication

Job Purpose
Ensure that all ship repair, fabrication, and industrial works are executed in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, class requirements, client standards, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining complete inspection control and quality documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Planning & Documentation
Review project specifications, engineering drawings, method statements, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
Prepare and implement the Project Quality Plan (PQP) where required.
Ensure availability of approved WPS, PQR, procedures, and inspection formats before commencement of work.
Maintain proper document control and records for all QA/QC documentation.

Incoming Material Inspection
Verify incoming materials against Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) and purchase specifications.
Ensure proper material identification, traceability, and marking.
Raise Material Inspection Reports (MIR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when deviations are identified.

In-Process Inspection (Ship Repair & Workshop)
Conduct stage inspections for steel renewal and structural fabrication works, piping fabrication and installation, welding fit-up and welding activities, mechanical equipment installation, and NDT coordination and verification.
Ensure work execution complies with approved drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
Maintain photographic records of relevant components, systems, and work areas before and after completion.
Record videos of critical tests and inspections for documentation and project records.

Welding & NDT Quality Control
Verify welder qualifications and certification validity.
Ensure proper storage, control, and handling of welding consumables.
Monitor preheating, welding parameters, and post-weld activities.
Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities such as UT, RT, PT, and MT and review test reports.

Final Inspection & Project Handover
Conduct final inspections prior to client or classification society surveys.
Ensure all punch list items are completed and verified.
Prepare and submit inspection dossiers, completion dossiers, and final quality records.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for deviations from approved standards or specifications.
Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure closure of NCRs prior to project completion.

Client / Class Coordination
Coordinate inspections with Client Representatives, Classification Society Surveyors, and Third-Party Inspectors.
Provide required inspection reports, documentation, and quality records during surveys and audits.

Workshop Quality Control
Monitor fabrication tolerances, dimensional checks, and fit-up inspections.
Verify calibration status of measuring and testing instruments.
Ensure quality compliance during machining, fabrication, and assembly operations.

Reporting & Documentation
Maintain daily inspection reports and QA/QC activity logs.
Record welding, NDT, and inspection activities for traceability.
Track the status of open inspections, NCRs, and punch items.

Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of ship repair standards, marine class rules, and industrial fabrication practices.
Familiarity with welding codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, and ISO.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Strong documentation, reporting, and quality control discipline.
Good coordination skills with production teams, project engineers, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Number of inspection rejections or rework cases.
Timely completion of inspections and documentation.
Effectiveness of NCR closure.
Client and class inspection acceptance rate.
Compliance with quality procedures and traceability requirements.
