- Review project specifications, method statements, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), and paint manufacturer’s data sheets to ensure compliance before work begins
- Inspect surface preparation activities including blasting, mechanical cleaning, and power tool cleaning to verify cleanliness (SA 2.5, SSPC standards, etc.) and profile requirements
- Verify environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed) before and during blasting/painting to ensure they are within paint manufacturer’s recommendations
- Check abrasives for type, cleanliness, size, and ensure they meet project standards before blasting activities
- Monitor coating material delivery, storage, mixing, and shelf-life to ensure proper handling and prevent deterioration
- Conduct inspection of applied primers, intermediate, and final coats to verify correct DFT (Dry Film Thickness), WFT (Wet Film Thickness), coverage, and finish
- Perform holiday (pin-hole) testing, adhesion tests, and other quality checks to confirm coating integrity, especially for pipelines, tanks, and offshore structures
- Ensure proper curing times and over-coating intervals are respected in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
- Witness stripe coating, touch-ups, and repair works to verify compliance with project specifications
- Maintain records of batch numbers, paint usage, climatic conditions, and inspection test reports for traceability
- Identify non-conformities, issue NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified
- Coordinate with painting contractors, client representatives, and third-party inspectors for joint inspections and approvals
- Ensure compliance with international standards such as ISO 8501, ISO 12944, SSPC, NACE, and project-specific oil & gas coating requirements
- Verify calibration of inspection instruments (DFT gauges, hygrometers, adhesion testers, holiday detectors) and ensure they are used correctly
- Attend quality meetings, toolbox talks, and interface with HSE teams to ensure painting activities are performed safely
- Prepare and submit daily inspection reports, QC dossiers, and final painting/coating inspection records for project handover
