QC Painting & Coating Inspector

Job Summary

The QC Painting & Coating Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all surface preparation, painting, and coating activities are executed in full compliance with approved project specifications, international standards, and company quality procedures. The role supports quality assurance across oil and gas construction projects by conducting inspections, verifying environmental and material conditions, coordinating with project stakeholders, and maintaining accurate inspection documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections of surface preparation, priming, intermediate, and final coating applications to ensure compliance with approved specifications, standards, and client requirements.
  • Verify and record environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity, dew point, surface temperature) before and during coating application.
  • Check coating materials for approval status, batch numbers, shelf life, and proper storage conditions.
  • Monitor paint mixing, thinning, and application processes in accordance with Manufacturer Data Sheets (MDS).
  • Perform visual inspections and coating-related testing, including Dry Film Thickness (DFT), surface profile, adhesion, and holiday detection using approved instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable international standards such as ISO 12944, SSPC, NACE/AMPP, ASTM, and project specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports, daily logs, checklists, and equipment calibration records.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and client representatives to resolve coating and quality-related issues on site.
  • Support QA/QC audits, inspections, and surveillance activities, ensuring timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Promote quality awareness and continuous improvement among painting crews and construction teams.
  • Ensure all painting and coating activities comply with project HSE and quality requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

Certifications (Mandatory – Anyone)

  • BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Grade 2 or Grade 1 or
  • NACE / AMPP CIP Level 2 or Level 3, or
  • SSPC / AMPP PCI Level 2 or Level 3.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in painting and coating inspection within the oil & gas construction industry, preferably on large EPC projects.
  • Prior experience on ADNOC projects or within UAE/GCC oil & gas projects is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coating systems, surface preparation methods, paint specifications, and QA/QC inspection practices.
  • Proficient in the use of coating inspection instruments such as DFT gauges, holiday detectors, hygrometers, surface profile gauges, and related tools.
