Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified and locally experienced QC Team Lead to oversee all quality control activities for our heavy structural steel and piping projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of QC inspectors and act as the primary quality liaison on-site. This role strictly requires current or previous QatarEnergy (QE) approval, alongside active CSWIP 3.1 and BGAS certifications, to ensure full compliance with client specifications, international codes, and project Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Site Coordination
- Lead, schedule, and manage a team of discipline-specific QC Inspectors (Welding, Painting, Dimensional).
- Act as the primary point of contact for QatarEnergy representatives and Third-Party Inspection (TPI) agencies during site walk-downs and audits.
- Ensure all construction activities strictly adhere to QatarEnergy standard specifications, QCS (Qatar Construction Specifications), and approved project ITPs.
- Issue, track, and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
Welding & Structural Inspection (CSWIP 3.1 Focus)
- Review, approve, and monitor Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
- Oversee fit-up, visual, and dimensional inspections of structural steel members and piping prior to, during, and after welding.
- Coordinate all Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities (RT, UT, MT, PT) with third-party subcontractors and review NDT reports for accuracy and compliance with ASME and AWS D1.1 codes.
- Monitor control of welding consumables (baking and holding temperatures).
Documentation & Quality Management
- Develop, review, and implement Project Quality Plans (PQP) and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Compile, review, and progressively sign off on the Manufacturer’s Data Report (MDR) and final handover dossiers.
- Maintain an up-to-date daily weld map, weld log, and coating inspection log.
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Mandatory Client Approval: Must hold a valid or easily transferable QatarEnergy (QE) Approval as a QC Supervisor or Senior Inspector.
- Mandatory Certifications: * CSWIP 3.1 (Welding Inspector) – Valid and active.
- BGAS-CSWIP (Painting Inspector Grade 2 or higher) – Valid and active.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: 6 to 9 years of robust QA/QC experience in structural steel, tanks, or piping construction, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or lead inspector capacity within the GCC (preferably Qatar).
- Code Familiarity: Deep knowledge of international standards including AWS D1.1, ASME Sec IX, ASME Sec V, and NACE/SSPC coating standards.
Working Conditions
- Requires active physical presence on steel construction sites, fab yards, or operational oil & gas facilities in varying environmental conditions (including extreme summer temperatures).
- Requires climbing structural frameworks and accessing confined spaces for inspection purposes.
- Must strictly adhere to stringent QatarEnergy Life Saving Rules and site PTW (Permit to Work) systems.
