Real-Time Crime Center Technician

HIRING RANGE: $28.44 - $31.60/hour

While assigned to the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), technicians will provide crime detection services by monitoring and utilizing all available RTCC resources. Proactively monitor the police radio along with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to assist with calls for service when and where appropriate. Use the radio to communicate with police department personnel providing information on observed criminal activity as well as supplying real time intelligence to assist them in responding to situations. Search and retrieve selected video images for investigative or prosecutorial purposes. Functions under department, state and federal procedures regarding the proper viewing, retrieval and booking of evidence. Operates under the general supervision of the Sergeant assigned to supervise the RTCC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors and operates computer equipment connected with cameras placed in various locations throughout the City of Lakewood providing situational awareness to responding resources during in-progress incidents.
  • Interpret potential and ongoing criminal activity based on monitored video and integrated systems through the RTCC.
  • Utilize available databases to gather relevant information that is or may be of assistance to field operations or ongoing investigations.
  • When appropriate, communicate on police radio with other department personnel.
  • Receive and process requests, internally and externally, for the retrieval of video recorded by the RTCC cameras.
  • When appropriate, will proactively monitor video from cameras owned and operated by other entities, such as the Regional Transportation District, Jefferson County Public Schools, Colorado Department of Transportation and the Lakewood Department of Public Works Department Traffic Operations for public safety situations and will communicate as appropriate.
  • Proactively monitor calls for service and when applicable actively assist department personnel in the field.
  • Deploy and operate Drone as First Responder (DFR) when appropriate within its response area.
  • Conducts maintenance for the DFR Dock(s) and Drone(s).
  • Responds to requests for video evidence during/after critical incidents as well as post incident investigations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Sergeant assigned to supervise the RTCC.
  • Supervision Given: None.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Prior law enforcement experience / police experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • FAA Part 107 certification preferred or ability to obtain within first year.
  • Ability to obtain NCIC/CCIC certification.
  • Driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Interact with other personnel in a positive manner.
  • Display dependability for regular and prompt attendance.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with the geography of the City of Lakewood.
  • Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with division support staff, supervisors and both sworn and non-sworn personnel.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a polygraph, oral board interview, reference checks background investigation and drug test.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must successfully complete and maintain required state or departmental physical standards and certifications.

LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Pay Range

$25.15-$32.67

Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
