BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for performing reception duties in an efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by your supervisor.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives and follows reception schedule/instructions from the supervisor and as outlined in THOD established policies and procedures.
Operates paging/telephone system as required.
Answers telephone determines nature of call and relays information within the facility as necessary.
Responds to inquiries and releases information in accordance with established HIPPA policies and procedures.
Responds to requests from within the facility and locates personnel through the paging system.
Gives direction/ information to visitors, guests, patients/residents, sales representatives, etc.
Reports suspicion us persons or information to supervisor immediately.
Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as calm environment throughout the facility.
Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient/resident care information to ensure patient/resident rights are protested.
Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent employee information to ensure employees' rights are protected.
Follows established safety procedures and precautions when operating office equipment.
Reports equipment malfunctions or breakdowns as soon as possible.
Attends and participates in in-service and on-the-job training programs as directed.
Immediately reports unsafe and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
Ensures that patient/residents rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are followed.
Participates in the overall quality assessment and improvement program activities.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Assists with administrative duties as directed.
Ensures administrative supplies have been replenished in work area as necessary.
Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.
Ensures that work/assignment area is neat, clean, and that office equipment is covered before leaving such area.
Performs other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor, department director, or Administrator.
EXPOSURE RISK
The Receptionist is at minimal risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High school diploma preferred; equivalent accepted.
EXPERIENCE
None required. On-the-job training provided.
Any combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
Works in well lighted/ventilated office areas.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Must be willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Is subject to pressure from multiple/emergency calls.
May be subject to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, etc.
Communicates with nursing and other department personnel.
Work area must be maintained and clean during working hours.
No food at receptionist area or eating at receptionist area during working hours.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
Must possess' the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patient/resident, visitors and the general public.
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character.
Must be knowledgeable of administrative practices, procedures and guidelines.
Must have the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(With or without the aid of mechanical devices)
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
Must be able to speak the English language and communicate effectively with others.
Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so ‘that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Must function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility, and ability to work effectively with other personnel.
Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must have a pleasant speaking voice.
