Location: Chicago, IL (remote-flexible, local travel required)
Reports to: Recruitment Manager, within the Marketing and Recruitment Team under the Head of Marketing

About Code Platoon

Code Platoon is a nonprofit coding bootcamp that prepares Veterans, active-duty Servicemembers, military spouses, and adult military children for high-growth careers in software development. Since 2016, we’ve graduated more than 700 students into roles at companies such as Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, and DRW. Our mission-first culture combines rigorous training with personalized career support to unlock economic mobility for the military community.

What You’ll Do

This new position brings Code Platoon closer to its roots. As the Recruitment Coordinator – Chicago, you’ll connect local Veterans, military spouses, and dependents to tech careers through our programs. You’ll lead grassroots recruitment across the Chicago and Illinois region hosting events, cultivating partnerships, and supporting email and content marketing that drives applications nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Events

Build and maintain relationships with Veteran service organizations, community colleges, and employers.
  • Identify and attend recruiting and hiring events; coordinate Code Platoon’s presence through tabling, speaking, and sponsorships.
  • Host small-scale events such as Learn to Code workshops and open houses.

Recruitment & CRM Management

  • Capture and manage contacts in HubSpot with accurate tagging and follow-up workflows.
  • Support reporting and data integrity across local and national recruitment efforts.

Email Marketing & Automation

  • Develop and launch email campaigns and drip workflows in HubSpot for local and national prospects.
  • Write and edit custom email content that encourages prospects to apply.
  • Monitor performance and recommend improvements to boost engagement and conversion.

Marketing & Content Support

Collaborate with the Content Manager to produce stories, photos, and updates for social media and the website.
  • Assist with website and social media content management in support of recruitment goals.
  • Identify community advertising opportunities that amplify Code Platoon’s local presence.

Collaboration & Reporting

Participate in weekly Marketing meetings, Operations stand-ups, and Development touchpoints.
  • Contribute metrics to monthly Marketing Scorecards and quarterly grant reports.

Qualifications

Required

1–3 years of experience in outreach, event coordination, marketing, or community engagement.
  • Strong connection to the Veteran or military family community (Veteran, spouse, or dependent preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable representing Code Platoon publicly.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CRM and marketing automation tools.
  • Based in the Chicago area with reliable transportation for local travel (30–40 %).
  • Ability to transport and set up event materials, signage, and giveaways (up to 25 lbs).

Preferred

Experience in education, workforce development, or nonprofit marketing.
  • Exposure to email marketing, content creation, or social media management.
  • Interest in technology or tech career pathways.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $42,000 – $47,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 403(b) with employer match.
  • Flexible remote schedule; occasional evening or weekend events.
