Regional Business Development Director, Power Export

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

To identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the assigned region by establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders, conducting market and competitive analyses, and driving the development of tailored commercial strategies. The role is responsible for expanding the company’s regional footprint, leading the origination and execution of growth initiatives, and ensuring alignment with corporate objectives to deliver sustainable long-term value.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Project Development & Regulatory Expertise


Leads the identification, origination, and development of high-value business opportunities across the assigned region, ensuring alignment with ACWA Power’s corporate strategy and growth agenda. Demonstrates strong proficiency in the full project development lifecycle — from concept to execution — while conducting in-depth market intelligence, policy assessments, and competitive analyses to anticipate trends and proactively position the company within both regulated and deregulated markets. Leverages knowledge of regulations, policy frameworks, and incentive mechanisms to optimize project success and expand ACWA Power’s regional footprint through growth initiatives, partnerships, and investment opportunities.


Commercial Negotiation Skills


Leads and manages the negotiation of major commercial agreements related to joint ventures and project development, ensuring that contractual terms are optimized and aligned with the company’s strategic and financial objectives. Executes partnership frameworks including MoUs, Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), and joint venture agreements with key stakeholders to secure long-term collaboration and investment opportunities.


Project Financing Knowledge


Possesses direct exposure to project financing processes and requirements, with practical experience interacting with multilateral lending agencies (MLAs), export credit agencies (ECAs), and European Union funding mechanisms considered a distinct advantage. Prepares investment proposals that support Board and executive decision-making and facilitate the advancement of large-scale energy projects.


Renewable Energy Technical Knowledge


Displays strong technical knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including wind turbine generators, solar photovoltaic systems, and battery energy storage solutions, And has the capability to develop and/or critically review associated financial models and budgets, ensuring projects are technically and economically viable.


Process Optimization & Complexity Management


Demonstrates the ability to streamline and optimize processes while effectively managing complex situations, applying structured and pragmatic approaches to achieve efficient and high-quality outcomes under pressure. Collaborates with GEOs, Country Managers, and BD support functions to ensure pipeline development, risk mitigation, and delivery readiness.


Stakeholder Engagement & Regional Experience


Engages with governments, regulators, transmission system operators (TSOs), and prospective joint venture partners to secure market entry, policy support, and regional collaboration. Exhibits a high level of proficiency in engaging and communicating with senior stakeholders and brings prior experience operating within the MENA and GCC regions, enabling effective relationship building and local market navigation. Regularly presents strategic updates, investment proposals, and partnership frameworks to ACWA Power’s executive team and Board, while contributing to the formulation of government-to-government (G2G) agreements that facilitate cross-border projects.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • MBA preferred.
  • 10-15 years’ experience in energy/ renewable energy, IPPs, energy infrastructure companies, OEMs, EPC contractors
  • English proficiency: reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A pro-active high achiever with high energy levels, who is used to working under pressure and to tight/challenging deadlines.
  • Good understanding of the business value chain.
  • Thorough attention to detail & Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Basic understanding of technical, legal and project finance knowledge.
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills.
  • Driven by excitement and curiosity.
