Teach For India is on a journey to reach an India free of poverty and filled with love by ending educational inequity in our country. Fifteen years into our journey we are a movement of ~5000+ Alumni working at all levels of the education system, who are reaching 1 in 10 children across the country. These Alumni have graduated from our two-year Fellowship Program where they taught in under-resourced classrooms to put ~33,500 low-income children on a different life path. Today, we have ~1000 Fellows and are the largest pipeline of driven, skilled talent into the educational ecosystem in India. Over 16,000 Teach For India students have appeared for the 10th grade board examinations till date, with an impressive 95% pass rate across cities as of November 2024.

In 2022, we embarked on Phase 4, our fourth strategic phase. We have a bold and ambitious ten-year journey ahead of us that aims to grow 50,000 leaders, who will work collectively, and with love, to transform the lives of 1 in 10 low-income children in our regions, through an education that unleashes the potential of self, others and India. In this decade, five key priorities will lead us to this vision.

  • Strengthen our core Fellowship to build strong teacher leaders who provide an excellent and equitable education to our children and continue to do so beyond the Fellowship
  • Scale our impact by strategically introducing additional Fellowships as alternative pathways for leadership development
  • Match the Alumni of our programs at an intersection of their interests and the needs of the system and our children
  • Advocate for key issues that impact educational equity, and engage 3.5% of the population in the movement for educational equity
  • Act collectively with our Alumni to learn about and address key issues in our regions.

Position Summary

Reporting to: Recruitment Director

The Regional Lead (RL) is part of the Recruitment Leadership team, responsible for setting the national strategy alongside with Fellowship Recruitment Director and other Regional leads. Candidate Success lies at the heart of the Recruitment work - this person will set the vision, strategy and operational plan for inspiring the brightest of minds across a region/segment to apply to the Fellowship Program. They will strategise and innovate to enable the Recruiters to create an inspiring and high-quality candidate experience that influences brightest and right-fit talent to apply to our program. At the same time, they will constantly ideate and innovate on best practices from beyond Teach For India to enable our scaling journey.


Note: This role will be an on-ground role that will involve travel, including in-person time with relevant stakeholders, meetings with high potential candidates, and conducting events at different venues.

Team Overview

The Recruitment team advocates to get the greatest leaders into our classrooms to ensure Teach For India’s multiplied impact on the Indian education system. The team has the responsibility to influence the future lifepaths of tens of thousands of young people to make the bold choice of doing something for the India that they always dreamed of. As an external-facing team, we build the brand, visibility and aspiration of Teach For India through engagement with the top institutions of the country, media partnerships, branding and promotion campaigns. The team creates strong champions for the movement by identifying, investing and leveraging influencers, and nurturing partnerships with college and corporate stakeholders. The team provides avenues for prospective applicants to meet with Fellows, Alumni, Staff and Students. Internally, the team works alongside several teams to ensure that the organisation acts as one team in its mission to find our movement of leaders who will eliminate educational inequity and ensure that all children attain an excellent vision.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy planning, operations and execution
    • Candidate Success
      • Set goals and indicators (for coverage, high-quality applicants and funnel stickiness) for the portfolios in the region based on the organisation's ambition and past years' progress.
      • Ideate and develop strategies that inform, inspire, and invest diverse archetypes of candidates (e.g. college & corporatehumanities, engineers, science students etc.), thereby enabling the best of them to apply to the Fellowship.
      • Develop an approach that ensures stickiness of applicants through Teach For India's three step application process
      • Capture and investigate data to monitor progress to goals, identify and analyse trends, make adaptations to strategy as necessary during each of the rounds
    • Admissions
      • Set realistically ambitious targets for each of the placements city, rooted in ensuring that there is parity across the 8 regions
      • Ideate and develop robust strategies to ensure that enable Accepts (those who have been given an offer to join us) confirm their offer and join the Fellowship
      • Oversee the execution of a robust placements and onboarding strategy for the incoming cohort |

People & process management

  • Lead and manage a large and diverse team of 5-7 individuals spread across cities
  • Coach, manage, empower and capacity build for each person on the team
  • Build a strong collaborative team culture that is rooted in Teach For India's culture that values relationships and results
  • Create structures, processes and visibility that enables effective execution, collaboration towards goals, and medium-term stability
  • Manage the regional team budget by allocating resources efficiently and effectively, and defining the annual team calendar and action plan

Stakeholder relationship building and collaboration

  • Work alongside all other verticals in the following ways:
    • Selection team to refine our recruitment/selection processes, exchange observations and metrics on an ongoing basis
    • Communications team to have the relevant materials and collaterals in place for candidates and Accepts
    • Technology team to build the necessary platforms and tools to support the application process as well as enable data-collection
    • Senior Leadership Team to provide progress updates and their role in Admission.
  • Create strong networks of Alumni, Fellows and Staff in each regions that will ensure sustainable channels for investing candidates in the Fellowship Program during the Candidate Success & Admissions work.
  • Play an active role in enabling University/Institute-level relationship building on a need basis

Overall contribution

    • Actively participate in all Recruitment Leadership Team initiatives including long term strategy planning, goal setting, resource allocation, problem-solving, national-level projects, team upskilling initiatives and resource sharing
    • Lead pilot projects and innovations to upgrade approach and systems towards scale
    • Team builder: Take ownership of team members' learning and growth by providing and seeking timely insights and feedback. Additionally, support other sub-verticals within the team with their efforts on an ongoing and need basis

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • A Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree in any field
  • 4-6 years of relevant work experience
  • A deep belief in Teach For India’s vision, mission, and core values
  • In-depth knowledge of the Teach for India Fellowship Program
  • Previous experience leading large projects and/or teams to successful outcomes
  • Recruitment Manager experience preferred
