Duties
- Review and analyze medical records, including clinical notes, diagnostic reports, and operative reports to assign accurate ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), HCPCS and ADA codes.
- Ensure all coding aligns with current guidelines, payer requirements, and industry standards for compliance and accuracy.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or ambiguities that impact coding precision.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding updates, and regulatory changes affecting medical billing and coding practices.
- Prepare detailed reports on coding activities and support the billing team in resolving claim denials related to coding issues.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently to access and document patient information securely.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive medical records by ensuring proper documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and billing codes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical coding with a strong understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG assignments, and ICD coding principles.
- Familiarity with medical billing processes and medical collection procedures.
- Prior experience working with RPMKS, EMR systems in a healthcare setting and using VISTA via VPN is highly preferred.
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation standards.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical records accurately.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers and billing teams.
- Certification such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent is mandatory.
