The Department of Oncology offers comprehensive cancer care services to all patients. The services are provided through multidisciplinary teams. Infrastructure facilities include a daycare setting dedicated to oncology patients. Outpatient facilities include clinics of Medical, Hematology, Pediatric, Radiation, and Palliative Care. The Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education and research. Residency programs are offered in Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Clinical Hematology Oncology, and a fellowship program in Pediatric Oncology.

This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • provide statistical and analytical support to the research team
  • coordinate with project teams and independently manage complex statistical aspects of research projects
  • analyse and evaluate statistical results and prepare derived datasets for analysis using packages such as Stata, R and Python
  • provide expertise in data management and data mining, and prepare statistical reports with interpretation for manuscript publications
  • assist in preparing periodic project reports and completing interim analyses
  • collaborate with funding agencies such as WHO and BMGF on analyses of multi-site studies
  • prepare statistical contributions to integrated study reports
  • develop project analysis plans, including computer-generated table specifications, statistical analysis plans, and research report formats
  • use statistical techniques and models to forecast results, trends, and needs
  • prepare project summaries for weekly and monthly status meetings
  • undertake any official assignments given by the supervisor(s)
  • analyse and interpret data from research projects and prepare descriptive tables
  • check data for inaccuracies and perform data cleaning and management
  • report statistical results in the form of graphs, charts, and tables
  • attend meetings, educational workshops, and virtual sessions to document discussions and proceedings
  • record and extract qualitative and quantitative data, including attendees, contributions, institutional affiliations, issues, concerns, research needs, service gaps, patient demographics, disease characteristics, treatment plans, radiotherapy details, themes of discussion, and feedback
  • maintain comprehensive datasets as outlined in project appendices, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • support qualitative data analysis using NVivo® and coordinate with the statistician or data analyst for quantitative analysis using SPSS
  • assist in preparing reports, manuscripts, scientific publications and conference abstracts
  • maintain secure and organised data management systems across all project activities
  • participate in interim and post-hoc analyses to assess paediatric radiation oncology practices across centres
  • support the PI and project manager in reviewing findings and drafting documents.

Requirements

You should have:

  • a bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or an equivalent field
  • minimum one year of relevant experience; experience in research and public health will be an added advantage
  • strong command of statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, and other statistical packages for both quantitative and qualitative data
  • proficiency in spreadsheets and presentation tools
  • experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection.
