Research Technician

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to support the development of a cutting-edge lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform for mRNA and gene therapy applications. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to assist in the design, formulation, and characterization of LNPs for targeted delivery applications in immunotherapy and regenerative medicine.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in nanomedicine, molecular biology, and translational research to gain hands-on experience in a rapidly growing field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and optimize lipid nanoparticle formulations using microfluidics and related techniques.
  • Perform characterization of LNPs (size, charge, stability, encapsulation efficiency, etc.) using DLS, NTA, and other analytical methods.
  • Conduct in vitro assays (cell culture, transfection, microscopy, flow cytometry, qPCR, etc.) to evaluate LNP performance.
  • Assist with animal studies (with appropriate training) to assess biodistribution and therapeutic efficacy.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, manage inventory of reagents and consumables, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the research team to analyze data, prepare reports, and contribute to publications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior laboratory research experience in molecular biology or nanotechnology, or biomaterials or cell culture
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nanoparticle formulation (lipid-based, polymeric, or inorganic).
  • Familiarity with nucleic acid handling (mRNA, DNA, siRNA).
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and transfection assays.
  • Knowledge of imaging and analytical techniques (fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry).
  • Prior experience in an academic or industry research laboratory.
