The Role

The Retail Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional service to guests, ensuring a pleasant and efficient retail experience. This role includes assisting guests with product inquiries, processing transactions, and maintaining an organized and inviting store environment. The Retail Clerk plays a vital role in driving sales and enhancing guest satisfaction.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Guest Assistance: Greet guests warmly and professionally, providing helpful information and a positive retail experience, especially in niche and high-end goods.
  • Sales Transactions: Process guest purchases accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system, ensuring a smooth checkout process while providing insights into luxury items.
  • Product Knowledge: Stay informed about niche and high-end products, promotions, and inventory to provide guests with relevant information and tailored recommendations.
  • Merchandising: Assist with the organization and presentation of luxury merchandise on the sales floor, ensuring products are displayed attractively and are accessible to guests.
  • Inventory Management: Help with stock replenishment and inventory counts, specifically for high-end goods, reporting any discrepancies or low stock levels to management.
  • Problem Resolution: Address guest concerns and complaints promptly, particularly those related to luxury items, striving to resolve issues to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Store Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized store environment, including restocking shelves and tidying up displays, with particular attention to the presentation of high-end merchandise.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to ensure efficient operations and a cohesive work environment, sharing knowledge of niche products to enhance the overall guest experience.


Building Successful Relationships:


  • Supervisor: Provide regular updates to the supervisor regarding guest feedback, sales trends, and any issues encountered.
  • Guests: Deliver outstanding service to foster loyalty and repeat business, addressing guest needs effectively.
  • Management: Collaborate with management to communicate product preferences and operational requirements.
  • Team Members: Coordinate with colleagues to ensure a seamless retail experience for guests.
  • Vendors: Interact with suppliers as needed to facilitate product orders and deliveries.


Skills/Knowledge Required:


  • Guest Service: Strong ability to provide high-quality service in a retail environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills for effective interaction with guests and team members.
  • Payment Handling: Proficiency in posting room charges and credit card transactions accurately.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain an orderly store environment.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in handling transactions and stocking merchandise.


Physical Requirements:


  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to perform tasks with care, including handling merchandise and posting payments (room charges and credit card).
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for extended periods and lift or carry moderate weights as needed.


Qualification Standards:


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years in a luxury retail or guest service role preferred, particularly with niche and high-end products.
  • Certifications: None required, but retail training or certification is a plus.
  • Grooming: All retail clerks must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance in accordance with store standards.
