Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled rigging artist to develop robust, animator-friendly rigs for characters, creatures, and props used in animation, cinematic films, VFX, real-time engines, and immersive experiences.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of anatomy, deformation systems, and production pipelines and can create scalable rigs that perform efficiently in both cinematic and real-time environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build production-ready rigs for:
- Biped & quadruped characters
- Stylized & realistic characters
- Creatures and mechanical assets
- Develop advanced IK/FK systems, space switching, and control setups
- Create facial rigs using joints, blendshapes, or hybrid systems
- Ensure clean skin weighting and natural deformations
- Optimize rigs for animation, Unreal Engine, or game pipelines
- Maintain clean hierarchy, naming conventions, and reusable rig systems
- Troubleshoot deformation and performance issues
- Collaborate closely with modeling, animation, and technical teams
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Maya
- Deep understanding of:
- Joint orientation & hierarchy
- Skinning & weight painting
- Deformation systems
- Constraint systems & space switching
- Experience with Advanced Skeleton, HumanIK, or custom rig systems
- Strong understanding of anatomy and body mechanics
- Knowledge of animation workflow and animator requirements
Preferred/Bonus Skills
- Experience with Python or MEL scripting
- Knowledge of Unreal Engine rig export workflows
- Experience with creature rigging
- Familiarity with facial performance capture setups
- Understanding of AR/VR or real-time production pipelines
Experience Required
- 0–1 years of professional rigging experience
- Strong demo reel showcasing deformation quality and control systems
Deliverables
- Clean, production-ready rig files
- Efficient deformation with minimal technical issues
- Optimized rigs compatible with rendering or real-time engines
