General Description
The safety officer is responsible for fostering a culture of safety within the company. By creating safety awareness through communication of the companies’ policies, procedures, and safety practices. Promoting safe behavior among the team through making observations, coaching, and encouraging reporting of hazardous acts and conditions, to avoid injuries. The role involves conducting asset verification audits, safety inspections and observations on both sites and facilities.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Promoting a positive health and safety culture within the organization.

Be positive in your attitude to daily and unforeseen circumstances, be positive by giving ideas to help find a solution and not by being negative and giving reasons why it cannot ‘be done.’

Promptly responding to all reports of unsafe conditions, unsafe activities, and incidents near misses, which are received, from Action workers and subcontractors. Taking prompt corrective action and advising HSE Team Lead accordingly with regard to unsafe/unhealthy procedures, methods, facilities, equipment, and substance.

Providing training and on-site specific coaching for staff in relation to Health and Safety policies, practice and procedures

Treat all employees, Clients and sub-contractors with respect, listen and answer in a respectful polite manner.

Conducting documented Inspections, recommended corrective actions on the prevention and elimination of hazards in the workplace and follow up on the closure of action items.

Stopping the job when risks are high, and the job is outside the desired scope of work and coaching the workforce in their right and responsibility in the STOP authority.

Ensure all workers are following the site MSRA.

Conduct and document random vehicle inspections and report to the BSU manager the findings.

Ensure the minimum 5-point PPE is worn on site and other task specific PPE is available and worn.

Ensure adherence to Client’s/Project established safety rules, standard, codes of practice & providing professional direction, guidance and support to the site-based Safety Officers / workers as required.

Help the QHSE officers in conducting Asset verification audits with

Ensure that all HSE reports and monthly inspections on fire extinguishers and first aid kits are carried out and documented and uploaded onto the HSE software.

Flexible in your working schedule and for possible permanent & temporary relocations to other areas within the Organization.

Conduct Service Quality inspections and observations and report to the QHSE manager and the SBU managers the findings.

To promote a positive service quality attitude to the site teams.

To maintain good time keeping and work ethic, to include remote jobs. Ensure proper written & face to face, handovers are done when applicable.

Using ACTION best practices, highlight any non-conformities especially during the installations phase. Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
Qualification Requirements
EDUCATION
-
Minimum High school with a Diploma. (Civil Engineering or Safety preferred)

Certification in Health & safety from a reputable institution (OSAHD 10 hours , or IOSH Level 3).
Knowledge & Skills
-
Must be tactful and diplomatic.

Able to work independently and as a part of a team.
-
Effective communication skills, with ability to deliver presentations and communicate issues clearly to the workers.
-
High level of self-motivation.

First Aid certified
