Role Overview
A
Scheduler
in a Metro Rail Project is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling the project schedule for all phases of metro construction—civil works, stations, viaduct/tunnel, systems, rolling stock, and integration. The role ensures project timelines are realistic, coordinated across multiple contractors, and aligned with contractual, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Baseline Development
-
Prepare detailed project schedules using Primavera P6/MS Project.
-
Develop WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) aligned to project scope.
-
Establish baseline schedules for civil, systems, track, signaling, rolling stock, and depot works.
-
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to finalize schedule logic.
2. Schedule Monitoring & Control
-
Track progress against baseline and update schedules regularly.
-
Identify delays, float consumption, critical path changes, and time-risk exposure.
-
Prepare and present weekly and monthly progress reports.
3. Coordination & Interface Management
-
Coordinate schedule inputs from multiple packages (EPC, D&B, system integrators).
-
Ensure interface alignment between civil & system works (e.g., MEP, AFC, telecom, signaling).
-
Participate in internal and client coordination meetings.
4. Delay Analysis & Claims Support
-
Perform delay analysis (TIL, Impacted As-Planned, Windows Analysis).
-
Highlight potential schedule impacts to avoid contractual disputes.
-
Support contractors and client teams in extension of time (EoT) assessments.
5. Risk & Mitigation Planning
-
Perform schedule risk assessment using probabilistic tools where required.
-
Recommend mitigation measures to avoid slippages.
6. Reporting & Documentation
-
Prepare dashboards, S-curves, manpower histograms, progress trackers.
-
Maintain schedule logs, progress documentation, and change records.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
-
Strong command over Primavera P6 (mandatory).
-
Knowledge of MS Project, Tilos, or BIM 4D tools (advantageous).
-
Understanding of metro construction processes, including:
-
Tunneling (TBM, NATM)
-
Elevated viaduct and station construction
-
Trackwork (ballastless track)
-
Power supply & traction
-
Signaling & telecommunication
-
Rolling stock integration
-
Familiarity with FIDIC or similar contract conditions.
Analytical & Soft Skills
-
Critical path method (CPM) analysis.
-
Strong coordination & multi-stakeholder communication.
-
Data-driven problem-solving.
-
Ability to work under tight deadlines and on complex, multi-package projects.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- B.Tech / B.E. in Civil Engineering,, or related discipline.
-
Certification in project planning (Primavera / PMI-SP) is an asset.
Experience
experience in Metro Rail / Infrastructure scheduling.
-
Experience working with contractors, consultants, or metro authorities preferred.
