Group Leaders (seasonal school-year part-time positions, continuing for further summer employment if mutually agreeable)
Openings at several branches (South Side, Meeting Street School, Hartford Park, Chad Brown)
General Description
- Group Leaders carry out fun, age-appropriate activities for ages 5-12 in games, homework help, arts & crafts, outdoor play, recreation, S.T.E.M., and more.
- Also assist with bus/van monitoring as needed.
- Also assist with food service as needed.
- Rate of pay: $16 - $20/hour, based on Education and Experience
- South Side Branch hours of work: Monday through Friday, split shift 7:00 to 9:00 AM and 2:00 to 6:00 PM, through June. There are further summer opportunities also available if mutually agreeable. Location: 1 Louisa Street, Providence.
- Meeting Street School site hours of work: Monday through Friday 2:30 to 6:00 PM through June. Further summer positions also available if mutually agreeable. Location: 1000 Eddy Street, Providence.
- Hartford Park site hours of work: Monday through Friday 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Further summer positions also available if mutually agreeable. Location: 50 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence.
- Chad Brown site hours of work: Monday through Friday 2:30 to 5:30 PM. Preference at this site for applicants with experience leading Arts or S.T.E.M. activities with children. Location: 263 Chad Brown St., Providence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Age 18 or older (required)
- Minimum of 12 college credits (required), and actively pursuing additional education.
- 24 or more college credits (preferred), and actively pursuing a degree (preferred).
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Youth Development, Child Development or related field* (preferred). See list of related fields below.
- At least one year of youth-related work experience in a group setting (required).
- Previous youth-related work experience in an urban, diverse setting (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in leading activities for school-age children (required).
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate positively with youth of ages 5-12.
- Ability to follow child safety and behavior management policies and procedures of organization.
- Ability to successfully pass all background checks, including but not limited to: national, state, and local background checks; RI and applicable out-of-state Child Abuse Registry clearances; continuous criminal records monitoring during course of employment; education and employment verifications; reference checks; pre-employment drug screen (for illegal drugs).
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (can be earned during employment if not current).
Payrates for part-time Child Care Group Leaders are below. These payrates are designed to attract and retain qualified staff who can provide high-quality activities and experiences for children, and who can help BGCP attain the highest-possible BrightStars ratings for staff qualifications:
12 - 23 college credits: $16 - $17/hour, depending on experience
24 - 59 college credits: $17 - $18/hour, depending on experience
60 or more college credits (no degree): $18 - $19/hour, depending on experience
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (any field): $19/hour
Associate's Degree in Youth Development, Child Development or related field*: $20/hour
Bachelor's Degree with at least 18 credits in Youth Development, Child Development or related field: $20/hour
*Related fields: Youth Development, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Recreation, Child & Family Services.
