Job Description
 
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is accepting applications for attorneys to serve as Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Office's Superior Court Division. The Superior Court Division is the largest division in the Office. It has primary responsibility for the prosecution of criminal cases in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and handles the highest volume of felony and misdemeanor cases prosecuted by the Office. Types of cases include, but are not limited to, homicides, sexual assaults, carjackings, kidnappings, robberies, burglaries, domestic violence, and narcotics and weapons possession.
 
AUSAs must possess the qualities necessary to excel in their mission to enforce the criminal laws of the District of Columbia and the United States. These qualities include advocacy and communication skills; superior writing and analytical skills; the ability to manage a high-volume docket; and dedication to duty. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, investigative agencies, witnesses, and crime victims. They must also demonstrate their willingness to meet the high ethical standards expected of prosecutors in their interactions with opposing counsel and the courts.
 
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Career Development Program implemented by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia provides new AUSAs with rotational work assignments in different (and progressively more complex) legal program areas of the Office for an approximate four-year duration. Qualifications
 
Required Qualifications: 
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent), be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least one year post J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Litigation experience and a minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. The initial appointment is temporary not-to-exceed 14 months from the effective date. Failure to obtain a favorable adjudication from the background investigation process could result in your removal from federal service.  Located in the nation&rsquo;s capital, The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the chief legal office of the District of Columbia. The OAG enforces the laws of the District, defends, and provides legal advice to the District&rsquo;s government agencies and protects the interests of the District&rsquo;s residents. This position is located in the Public Safety Division within the Domestic Violence &amp; Special Victims Section.
 
 
 The Public Safety Division handles all cases where young people commit a law violation in the District of Columbia and prosecutes selected adult misdemeanor cases. The Domestic Violence and Special Victims Section and the Mental Health Sections protect victims of domestic violence, incapacitated adults who are being abused, and mentally ill adults who need emergency psychiatric care. The Restorative Justice Section facilitates conferences between the young people who commit crime and the victim, where the victim is interested. The Public Corruption Section prosecutes offenses related to fraud that undermine the public trust.
 
 
 
 Duties And Responsibilities
 
 
 
 The Domestic Violence &amp; Special Victims Section is seeking a Trial Attorney for its civil protection order practice. The attorney&rsquo;s primary responsibility will be prosecuting criminal contempt actions for violations of civil protection orders. The attorneys vertically prosecute their cases so each attorney is responsible for investigating reports of violations; making charging decisions; fulfilling discovery obligations; resolving cases through declination, diversion, plea agreement or trial; and monitoring compliance with any post-conviction conditions.
 
 
 The attorney will also represent survivors obtaining civil protection orders in all aspects of civil litigation involving the order. The caseload will include intimate partner, dating violence, family violence, stalking, and sexual assault cases. The attorney will be expected to work closely with colleagues from public and private agencies in seeking a broad range of remedies for survivors.

</ul>Investigative case management<ul>
<li>Manage a range of complex and high-value investigative projects utilizing proprietary and specialist databases, online public records, site visits and discreet inquiries open sources in a variety of investigative contexts for internal and external clients
</li><li>Take the lead in litigation and dispute-related work matters as subject matter expert for the project managers on the team</li>
<li>Manage and train teams throughout the project cycle, from initial client request to proposal drafting, acceptance, delivery and invoicing</li>
<li>Communicate with clients to understand their goals and ensure that our proposals deliver solutions tailored to those needs</li>
<li>Fully understand project budgeting, resource management and profitability of projects
</li><li>Review and edit client deliverables in the Control Risks style and for quality control</li>
<li>Support teams in briefing and present findings, in writing, verbally and through charts and diagrams, to internal and external clients
</li><li>Resolve client problems and complaints, including leading difficult conversations and resolving issues
</li><li>Manage investigators and subcontractors. Oversee the effective performance of investigators and other junior colleagues, providing meaningful and constructive feedback.
</li></ul>Requirements<ul>
<li>Advanced degree in an analytical or relevant technical field of study</li>
<li>Related industry certifications a plus (CFE, ACAMS, etc.)</li>
<li>At least 10 years of investigative experience at a corporate investigations firm and/or within an investigations practice in an advisory firm.</li>
<li>US public record investigations experience as a baseline, with global investigative experience preferred: Social media research and analysis; US litigation support and other complex investigations (cross-border preferred); Discreet source inquiries; Training; Case management (with respect to budgets, deadlines and written work product); People management (in-house teams and subcontractors); Client management;
</li><li>Strong network of contacts in the US, preferably with law firms</li>
<li>Proven sales origination experience
</li><li>Deep experience with/knowledge of local markets pertaining to legal buyers of investigative services; preference for established relationships or identified targets</li>
<li>Polished professional skills regarding people management, written/oral communication, giving/receiving feedback, team dynamics and organizational change</li>
<li>Commitment to proactively helping grow and develop a busy, thriving investigative practice</li>
</ul>The base salary range for this position in Washington DC is $180,000-$210,000 per year. The base salary range for this position in New York City is $200,000-$220,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
