Research Scientist Intern

 The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Project) for a one-year period, with the possibility of renewal conditional on excellent performance.
 
 
 The Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Research) will support advanced, quantitatively intensive research at CTED with a primary focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computational analysis. The Junior Research Scientist will play a central role in supporting research design, algorithmic development, data analysis, and coding tasks across CTED&rsquo;s interdisciplinary projects. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Yaw Nyarko, and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), Dr. Ra&scaron;a Karapand&zcaron;a, the Junior Research Scientist will contribute to AI-driven and blockchain-enabled research related to commodities markets and economic development. The role requires strong foundations in mathematics and computer science, including statistical learning, optimization, simulation, and algorithmic reasoning. The successful candidate will use programming and computational tools (including Python, MATLAB, and related libraries) to develop, test, and evaluate machine learning models; review, proofread, and execute formal mathematical proofs; implement optimization and simulation-based methods; and analyze large and complex datasets. Responsibilities include supporting experimental and field-based research, preparing literature reviews, translating complex AI and mathematical findings into clear written outputs, and contributing to research reports, concept notes, and academic publications.
 
 
 Candidates must hold a Master&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field (e.g., Economics with a strong mathematics background). and have less than five years of relevant research experience; or hold a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a relevant field with any level of research experience. Applicants must have extensive coding experience, and preferably, applicants will have experience conducting field research in emerging countries and working on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Applicants with experience working in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and/or MATLAB, a strong interest in economic and quantitative research and the willingness to learn about the blockchain, are encouraged to apply. Experience in web development, blockchain, commodities markets, and technology and economic development will be considered a plus. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, working autonomously, but as a team member under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

The Research Scientist will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for collection, c, MEG, EEG, and eye tracking. The tentpole of the CBH is a normative brain database - the first of its kind in the region - that includes structural, functional, and diffusion MRI, behavioral and health measures, genetic information, and lifestyle questionnaires
 
 
 Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, MR Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Postdoctoral experience or equivalent is preferred. This position requires extensive experience with multimodal MRI, including functional and structural MRI and tractography. Experience with big data analysis techniques is essential. Experience working with other large brain databases is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong computational skills and a strong publication record.  The Smart Materials Lab (Pan&ccaron;e Naumov Group) at the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated associate research scientist candidate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for materials science, with an emphasis on structure-property-relationships, materials optimization, materials under extreme conditions, and generative AI.
 
 
 Candidates must possess substantial experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, specifically in AI-driven materials discovery, machine learning applications for materials, or generative AI related to materials. The successful candidate will independently lead a project focused on developing generative AI models to establish structure-property relationships for materials discovery. This individual will be expected to collaborate closely with the project team and coordinate efforts with experimentalists from the Smart Materials Lab (SML) and the Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at NYUAD.  Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time.  The Modern Compilers Lab in the Computer Science program at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to work on the intersection of compilers and deep learning.
 
 
 Many companies, such as Google, Facebook, and Amazon are building new specialized programming frameworks. This is because these companies need to allow their users to write simple, high-level code and run it efficiently on different hardware architectures. For example, Google has built TensorFlow, a framework for deep learning allowing users to run deep learning on multiple hardware architectures without changing the code.
 
 
 Our research team at NYUAD (New York University Abu Dhabi) is developing a new programming framework called Tiramisu [1]. Unlike existing frameworks, Tiramisu can perform advanced code optimizations that are hard to apply otherwise. Because of this, Tiramisu can generate fast code that outperforms highly optimized code written by expert programmers and can target different hardware architectures (multicore, GPUs, FPGAs, and distributed machines).
 
 
 In order to have the best performance (fastest execution) for a given Tiramisu program, many code optimizations should be applied. Optimizations include vectorization (using hardware vector instructions), parallelization (running loop iterations in parallel), enhancing data locality by fusion, and blocking (i.e. accessing arrays in a way that improves temporal and spatial data locality). A large number of optimizations exist and choosing which optimization should be used and which should not is important for performance. In some situations, some optimizations are harmful to performance while they are beneficial in other situations. Currently, there is no way to help users choose which optimizations should be used. Expert programmers usually spend a lot of time trying different optimizations manually to find the best set of optimizations.
 
 
 The goal of this project is to add support for automatic code optimization in Tiramisu. In particular, we want to use machine learning/deep learning to achieve this. Currently, a basic automatic optimization module that relies on machine learning has been developed and we want to take that module to the next level. The final product of this project would be a compiler pass that allows Tiramisu to automatically choose which optimization should be used for a given unoptimized program. We want to produce a high-quality technique that can be used by the users of Tiramisu and especially by our partner companies and research labs.
 
 
 Candidates must hold a bachelor&rsquo;s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, though a master&rsquo;s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have Internship or experience in the areas of compilers and artificial intelligence.
