Seasonal Parks & Special Projects Worker

Basic Purpose of the Job
Under general supervision and direction from the Parks Superintendent and Parks Division Supervisors performs a variety of assigned duties and responsibilities involved in the maintenance city parks, open spaces, facilities and events. Assists Parks Division and Public Works staff in the performance of routine tasks as assigned. Learns and adheres to safety standards.

Supervision Received: Work under the general direction and guidance of the Parks and Special Projects Superintendent and Parks Division Supervisors. Must be able to exercise sound judgment.

Physical Demands: Requires ability to perform heavy manual labor. Strenuous physical work requiring ability to lift fifty pounds frequently; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination. Occasional hand/eye coordination for operation of equipment; vision for reading; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens.
Work Environment: Outside work, with exposure to outside elements. Requires driving and walking during inclement weather. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, twist or crawl. Frequent exposure to loud noise and airborne particles. Occasional exposure to pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.

  • Performs assigned duties in the maintenance and control of parks, open spaces, facilities and events within the City.
  • Operates maintenance equipment, tractors, string trimmers, power rakes, sprayers, mowers and power tools. Assist with irrigation system repair. Maintain equipment including checking for proper fluid levels, tire pressure and report issues.
  • Conducts routine maintenance of park facilities including removal of trash/litter, watering, landscaping and turf/field maintenance.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Job Requirements

  • Ability to calculate basic math.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of hand tools.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to comply with safety standards.
Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous experience in similar position preferred.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license with acceptable driving record.
