The Spirit of the Position:

Position Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating shuttle operations at Sacramento International Airport to ensure safe, timely, and efficient transportation service. This role serves as the communication hub between drivers, supervisors, and management, monitoring real-time operations, addressing service needs, and resolving issues to maintain service quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor shuttle schedules and headways to ensure on-time performance.
  • Dispatch drivers to assigned routes, breaks, and coverage areas using radios, scheduling software, or dispatch systems.
  • Maintain constant communication with drivers regarding passenger load, route adjustments, delays, and incidents.
  • Track vehicle locations, service frequency, and performance using GPS and reporting tools.
  • Respond to operational issues such as mechanical breakdowns, traffic delays, or incidents, escalating as needed.
  • Document and log driver activity, incidents, attendance, and schedule adherence.
  • Support supervisors and managers with daily reporting, data entry, and service updates.
  • Provide clear and professional communication to drivers, passengers (when applicable), and airport stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with driver scheduling, coverage planning, and shift transitions.
  • Other duties as assigned to support shuttle operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Previous experience in dispatching, transportation operations, or logistics strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (radio, phone, written, electronic).
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with GPS tracking, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Sacramento Airport roadways and shuttle operations a plus.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to use computers, radios, and phones continuously throughout the shift.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
