GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The unit secretary serves to support and enhance the activities of the nursing unit by effectively communicating, transcribing orders, chart maintenance and maintaining an organized work environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer and discharge, maintenance of patient activities for the records, telephone answering and unit reception. (50%)
• Transcribes orders subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary. (40%)
• Communicates with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient care and other issues. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred

• Experience with medical technology, data entry, previous clerical experience/secretarial in a health care environment
