Big Bad Wolf Books is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee full-spectrum accounting, event-based financial control, and multi-entity reporting within a fast-paced booksale environment.
This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong inventory reconciliation, cash control during large-scale events, and compliance across UAE operations and related entities.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Manage full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliations, accruals, provisions) for UAE and related entities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Ensure timely monthly and event-based closing of accounts
- Prepare P&L per event and consolidated reports
- Analyse and highlight key variances, margin movements, and cost overruns to management
Event-Based Financial Oversight
- Track event-level revenue and expenses
- Reconcile POS sales against cash and card collections daily during events
- Monitor inventory movement before, during, and after booksale events
- Coordinate with Operations and Warehouse for stock reconciliation
- Prepare post-event financial analysis and performance summaries
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Monitor working capital and prepare rolling cash flow projections
- Manage vendor payments in line with approval matrix
- Ensure proper handling of large-volume cash collections during events
- Liaise with banks on facilities and transactions
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with UAE VAT regulations
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and supporting schedules
- Support external audits and provide required documentation
- Maintain internal controls and financial governance standards
JV & Group Reporting
- Prepare reports required by shareholders (e.g., HQ Malaysia / JV partners)
- Assist in financial presentations for board meetings
- Ensure intercompany reconciliation and documentation
Systems & Process Improvement
- Strengthen financial SOPs and internal controls
- Improve reconciliation processes between POS, inventory system, and accounting system
- Support system enhancements and automation initiatives
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 6–8 years of solid accounting experience, preferably in retail, events, or logistics-driven environments
- Strong understanding of inventory and event-based financial controls
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced booksale environment
- Good communication skills to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
