Senior Accountant / Client Manager (UK Tax Specialist)

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Client Manager with expertise in UK taxation to manage a portfolio of clients and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations. The role involves delivering high-quality accounting, tax advisory, and financial reporting services while building strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will also mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements within the practice.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management

Manage a portfolio of UK-based clients, providing proactive accounting and tax advice.

Serve as the primary point of contact for client queries, ensuring timely and professional responses.

Develop and maintain strong client relationships by understanding their business and financial needs.

Accounting & Tax Compliance

Prepare and review statutory accounts, corporation tax returns (CT600), VAT returns, and self-assessment tax returns.

Ensure full compliance with HMRC regulations and UK accounting standards (FRS 102, FRS 105).

Provide tax planning advice, highlighting allowable expenses and tax-saving opportunities.

Stay current with changes in UK tax laws and accounting practices.

Payroll & Financial Reporting

Oversee payroll processing, ensuring compliance with PAYE and National Insurance.

Assist clients with financial reporting, management accounts, and cash flow forecasting.

Manage pension schemes, auto-enrollment, and other employer-related obligations.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

Supervise, train, and mentor junior accountants, reviewing their work for accuracy and compliance.

Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and automation, particularly through cloud-based software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).

Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

ACA, ACCA, ATT, or equivalent UK accounting/tax qualification.

Minimum 1.5 to 5 years of relevant experience in UK accounting and taxation.

Strong understanding of UK GAAP, HMRC regulations, and UK tax compliance.

Prior experience in a client-facing role within an accounting practice.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, TaxCalc, and HMRC portals.

Strong Excel skills with the ability to prepare and analyze financial models.

Knowledge of payroll processing and UK employment tax regulations.

Soft Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Proven ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines effectively.
