Job Summary:
Provides direct support to the Accounting Manager and Sales teams in all aspects of the monthly commission process, including calculating, reconciling, and validating complex commission structures across multiple regions (domestic and international), revenue streams, and Sales Representatives. Responsible for reviewing commission data, preparing monthly pay statements for Sales Representatives, recording commission accruals, and ensuring payouts are calculated accurately and in accordance with established compensation plans. Supports month-end close activities related to the general ledger, commission expense, and accruals. Assists with audit requests and ad hoc reporting as needed. Collaborates closely with Sales and the Accounting Manager to investigate discrepancies and ensure consistent application of commission policies. This role requires strong analytical skills, prior experience with complex commission structures, and a solid understanding of accounting principles to ensure accuracy, transparency, and integrity in commission reporting and financial results. This position is responsible for standard Senior Accountant functions in addition to overseeing and executing the monthly sales commission process.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Manage the end-to-end commission process, including calculation, reconciliation, and reporting of sales commissions across multiple sales representatives and territories.
Oversee and ensure accurate application of complex commission structures, including accelerators, claw backs, split commissions, service baselines, and quota-based incentive plans.
Review commission data and reports and prepare monthly commission statements and supporting documentation for Sales Representatives, ensuring accuracy and alignment with established compensation plans. transactions
Prepare and record monthly commission accruals and related journal entries, supporting the integrity of financial reporting and the month-end close process
Reconcile commission calculations to underlying revenue data and general ledger activity, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
Collaborate closely with Sales, Accounting, and leadership teams to ensure consistent interpretation and application of commission policies and compensation plans.
Assist with process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of the commission process.
Lead key aspects of the month-end and year-end close process, including preparing and posting journal entries and completing account reconciliations
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies
Collaborate with operational teams to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions
Assist with process improvements, automation initiatives, and system implementations as needed
Provide audit support and documentation related to commission calculations, accruals, and compensation plans.
Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management

Experience and Skills:
Skills/Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation of large datasets
Experience working with JD Edwards, CRM platforms, or commission tracking tools (e.g., Salesforce, CaptivateIQ, or similar systems)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to identify process improvements and implement more efficient workflows
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, and leadership teams
Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving work environment
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Proven ability to manage commissions across multiple regions, revenue streams, and large sales teams
Demonstrated experience managing multi-tiered commission plans, including accelerators, quotas, service baselines, split commissions, and claw backs
Experience working in organizations with high-volume sales environments and complex compensation plans
Experience supporting the full commission cycle, including calculation, validation, reconciliation, payout reporting, and commission accruals
Experience reconciling commission calculations to revenue data, sales systems, and the general ledger
Experience supporting month-end close processes, including preparation of commission-related journal entries and account reconciliations
Excel skills required: pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas
