Job Summary:
A hands-on role responsible for leading a team of Database Administrators organized by subject matter expertise and/or geographic location.
The Team Leader will be required to build a cohesive, motivated team and work alongside a complicated set of geographically dispersed stakeholders including management, technology architects and technology staff to assist in the lifecycle of new client services, from design and development, through to implementation and on-going support.
The role holder will ensure the team adhere to best practices, will promote team working and clear communication and ensure workload prioritization.
The role holder will ensure that processes are in place to ensure assigned systems are monitored, maintained and supported alongside ensuring that assigned project tasks or work streams are delivered on time and to budget.
As part of the full lifecycle management the Team Leader will contribute to, and ensure adherence to the development, communication and implementation of a clear strategy.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead database teams, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Management of the assigned SME or geographically located team
Define and drive database roadmaps, including upgrades, migrations, and cloud adoption.
Lead the administration and optimization of Oracle databases (12c, 19c, or later), including RAC, ASM, OGG and Data Guard.
Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies using RMAN and Oracle Data Guard.
Monitor database performance and proactively resolve issues using AWR, ADDM, and other diagnostic tools.
Manage database patching, upgrades, and migrations across environments.
Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to support business-critical applications.
Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
Participate in capacity planning and architecture reviews.
Provide expert level troubleshooting to quickly identify and resolve database related incidents across a wide array of technologies and platforms
Participate in root cause analysis and problem resolution triage sessions
Makes technical decisions during high priority incidents focused on impact remediation and communicates clearly to call participants and leadership
Understand current capacity issues and the capacity planning processes
Work with team to review change requests, Problem and Vendor Management
Align day-to-day activities with broader organizational objectives
Support a rigorous change control process including reviewing, and implementing change records for database activities
Participate in special projects representing database operations on new implementations or troubleshooting deep dives
Conduct performance reviews and support career growth within the Oracle team. Mentor DBAs and provide technical leadership.
Skills, knowledge and experience:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
12+ years of experience in Oracle database administration and 3+ years of exp Leading technical teams
Oracle Database Architecture: In-depth knowledge of Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard.
Performance Tuning: Mastery of AWR, ADDM, SQL tuning, and system diagnostics.
Backup & Recovery: Proficiency with RMAN, and disaster recovery planning.
Cloud Platforms: Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure for hybrid or cloud-native deployments.
Security & Compliance: Implementing encryption, auditing, and regulatory compliance.
Knowledge of PostgreSQL and other opensource databases.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Analytical Thinking: Solving performance or architectural challenges with data-driven decisions.
Collaboration: Working cross-functionally with application, infrastructure, and security teams.
Desirable:
Microsoft and\or Oracle Certifications
Foundation in ITIL
