The Senior Electrical Project Engineer leads the planning, design, execution, and delivery of electrical engineering projects. This role coordinates multidisciplinary teams, ensures technical excellence, manages budgets and schedules, and maintains compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. The engineer also serves as a technical mentor and subject-matter expert within the organization.

Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Management

  • Lead electrical engineering scope for medium to large capital or infrastructure projects.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, cost estimates, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate work across engineering disciplines, construction teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Manage technical documentation, change requests, design reviews, and project reporting.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.

Electrical Design & Technical Expertise

  • Perform and oversee design of power distribution, lighting, grounding, control systems, and low-/medium-voltage systems.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, and protection coordination studies.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, utility requirements, and other relevant codes.
  • Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations for system upgrades and improvements.

Construction Support

  • Provide technical guidance during installation, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and field change requests.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify that construction meets design intent and safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues during project execution.

Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination

  • Communicate project status and technical issues to clients, contractors, and management.
  • Work with procurement to evaluate vendor proposals and select electrical equipment.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.

Quality, Safety, & Compliance

  • Implement engineering best practices, design standards, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Ensure all project activities follow safety standards and organizational policies.
  • Prepare documentation for permitting, regulatory approvals, and commissioning.

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Lead design reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 6 years of experience in electrical design and project engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven track record delivering complex industrial, commercial, energy, or infrastructure projects.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM PowerTools).
  • Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE, NFPA, IEC standards.
  • Experience in power distribution, control systems, protection coordination, and system studies.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-coordination abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
