The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer will be responsible for the complete electrical and instrumentation engineering of water and wastewater treatment packages, including design, documentation, coordination, procurement support, installation, testing, and commissioning. The role requires hands-on experience with process instrumentation, control panels, MCCs, PLC systems, and compliance with international and local standards.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Engineering
- Prepare electrical load lists for pumps, blowers, mixers, and package equipment
- Design LV power distribution systems, including MCCs, PCCs, and local control panels
- Perform cable sizing calculations (power, control, and instrumentation) including voltage drop and short circuit calculations
- Develop and review:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLD)
- Cable schedules and termination drawings
- Panel sizing and GA drawings
- Select electrical components such as breakers, contactors, relays, VFDs, soft starters, and protection devices
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC, and local authority regulations
Instrumentation & Control Engineering
- Prepare instrument index, I/O list, and control philosophy for water and wastewater processes
- Select and specify field instruments including:
- Flow meters (EMF, ultrasonic)
- Level transmitters (ultrasonic, radar, pressure)
- Pressure, pH, ORP, turbidity, conductivity, and DO analyzers
- Prepare instrument datasheets, hook-up drawings, and installation details
- Design PLC-based control systems, including:
- PLC, HMI, SCADA architecture
- Control panels and marshalling panels
- I/O allocation and panel wiring diagrams
Panels, Automation & Integration
- Design and engineer:
- MCC panels with PLC/VFD integration
- PLC, HMI, and remote I/O panels
- Coordinate with panel fabricators and review shop drawings
- Support FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities
- Interface PLC/SCADA systems with package equipment and external systems
Documentation & Submittals
- Prepare and review technical documents including:
- Electrical & instrumentation design calculations
- Equipment and instrument datasheets
- Technical submittals for client and consultant approval
- Respond to technical queries (TQ) and manage design revisions
Site Support & Commissioning
- Provide engineering support during installation and commissioning
- Supervise loop checking, panel testing, and system integration
- Troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues during startup
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechatronics Engineering
- 6–12 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment projects
- Proven experience in E&I package engineering and automation systems
Technical Skills
- Design tools: AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP (preferred)
- PLC platforms: Siemens / Allen-Bradley / Schneider
- SCADA/HMI systems: WinCC, FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition
- Strong knowledge of process control in water and wastewater treatment
Soft Skills
- Strong coordination and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple packages and deadlines
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting mindset
Preferred / Advantageous
- Experience with UAE / GCC authority approvals
- Knowledge of cybersecurity and industrial networking
- Site commissioning experience in STP, WTP, RO, UF, MBR plants
