Precourt Institute for Energy
The mission of Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy is to spark the creativity, collaboration, learning, and leadership needed for the global energy transformation. Seeking Senior Finance Analyst
The Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford is seeking a full-time Senior Finance Analyst who will report to the Assistant Director of Finance and supports the overall operations for the Institute. This position helps the Assistant Director of Finance to manage and track financial responsibilities across the Institute to ensure timely and accurate reporting. The purpose of this role as a key member of the Precourt finance team is to perform financial reporting and analysis, ensure expenditure compliance, perform complex reconciliations, assist with development of the budget and perform financial modelling. The Senior Finance Analyst must be advanced knowledge with Oracle or other financial systems and must have experience working with budgets. Must be able to communication complex ideas and numbers clearly and succinctly and have an avid commitment to accurate work. Must possess proven ability to analyze information, define issues, propose solutions, collaborate of improvement plans and implement changes effectively. Must have ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships within the Institute, its centers, programs, initiatives, and with external units. This individual will also need to be an effective team player with excellent communication skills and a drive to learn, innovate, and contribute effectively in a fast paced environment.

Your Responsibilities will include:

• Perform and design analyses of large complex data sets, including reconciling complex accounts in support of the wide variety of programs and initiatives within Precourt. Identify and resolve complex issues that span multiple areas across the Institute. Conducting month-end close reconciliations, including entering iJournals and submitting fund transfers.
  
• Managing pre- and post-award activities and seed grants, including funding distribution, tracking, and reporting. Advising program and unit managers with financial reporting.
  
• Oversee financial processes related to student activities such as fellowship programs and internships. Execute accounts receivable tasks, including invoices, revenue collection, and allocation of funds.
  
• Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision-making purposes. Develop conclusions and present high-level summaries of recommendations. Support aspects of the annual budget process and prepare variance reports. Provide financial expertise and guidance to event teams in budget development and planning. Supporting year-end close activities and award close-outs.
  
• Conduct analysis and resolution of complex problems, recognizing exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes. Maintain a broader organizational perspective in decision-making.
  
• Execute internal control programs as established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage a compliance program for the assigned area of responsibility and create complex compliance reports. Review and approve all expenses to ensure compliance with Stanford guidelines.
  
• Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management, the Dean’s office and third parties.
  
• Participate as a member of a project team and provide support for new initiatives. Make decisions that determine the approach to managing and completing processes.
  
• Contribute to the Precourt strategy and assist in the development of change management plans and materials, as needed.
  
• Participate in the critical analysis of existing systems and processes, identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  
• Provide consulting advice to client groups, serving as a resource on matters that require specific financial expertise, providing guidance and instruction to staff regarding expense processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices. Contributing to the intranet content related to financial standards and processes.
  
• May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff members, occasionally performing and delegating routines financial transactional tasks as needed.
