Senior Forensic Planning Engineer

Job Summary:


The Forensic Planner is responsible for providing expert analysis of construction project schedules, identifying the root causes of delays and disruptions, quantifying their impact, and assisting in the preparation or defense of extension of time (EOT) claims and other dispute resolution processes. This role requires a deep understanding of project planning, scheduling methodologies, construction contracts, and legal principles related to construction claims.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Delay Analysis.
  • Conduct comprehensive retrospective and prospective delay analyses using various industry-accepted methodologies (e.g., Critical Path Method (CPM), Time Impact Analysis, As-Planned vs. As-Built, Window Analysis).
  • Identify and analyze critical path activities, float, concurrent delays, and pacing delays.
  • Determine the causation and responsibility for identified delays.
  • Quantify the time and cost impacts of delays and disruptions.
  • Documentation and Data Review:
  • Thoroughly review project documentation, including contracts, baseline schedules, updated schedules, meeting minutes, daily reports, correspondence, change orders, design revisions, and financial records.
  • Gather and organize all relevant information to support delay analysis.
  • Assess the quality and reliability of project records for forensic analysis.
  • Report Writing.
  • Prepare detailed, clear, and concise forensic planning reports that present findings, methodologies, and conclusions.
  • Ensure reports are defensible and adhere to legal and contractual requirements.
  • Claim Support and Dispute Resolution:
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of extension of time claims and other dispute documents.
  • Support legal teams in arbitration, mediation, or litigation proceedings.
  • Provide expert witness testimony if required, explaining complex scheduling issues in an understandable manner.
  • Advise clients on potential risks related to delay assessments and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Project Planning & Governance (Proactive):
  • Collaborate with project planning teams to ensure schedules are robust, contractually compliant, and maintained according to best practices.
  • Conduct schedule health checks and audits to identify potential issues early.
  • Advise on effective early warning and delay notification processes.
  • Develop standardized delay and disruption reporting templates.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or a closely related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PSP, AACE certifications) are often preferred.
  • Proven 10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, with significant experience in forensic planning, delay analysis, and claims.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, contract types, and industry standards.
  • Expert proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify causal links.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
