Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished GIS professional with a strong focus on transportation networks to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive background in geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, data management, and related geospatial technologies, with specific expertise in roads, highways, and transportation infrastructure. A proven track record of working on transportation-related projects, ideally within a Ministry of Transport or similar governmental transportation agency, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise geodatabases for transportation networks, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Develop and implement GIS solutions for transportation planning, traffic management, safety analysis, and infrastructure asset management.
  • Conduct advanced spatial analysis and modeling to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in transportation data, such as traffic flow, accident hotspots, and infrastructure conditions.
  • Develop and maintain GIS tools and applications for route optimization, transportation network analysis, and infrastructure maintenance scheduling.
  • Create high-quality maps, visualizations, and reports for transportation-related projects, presenting data effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide expert GIS consultation services and technical support to transportation engineers, planners, and other stakeholders.
  • Stay at the forefront of GIS technology advancements in the transportation sector, evaluating and recommending innovative solutions.
  • Manage complex GIS projects related to transportation infrastructure, including planning, resource allocation, budget management, and team leadership.
  • Mentor and supervise junior GIS staff working on transportation projects, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of GIS standards, procedures, and data governance policies for transportation data.
  • Work closely with a Ministry of Transport (or equivalent) to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Analyze road networks using systems like the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) for safety analysis.
  • Utilize remote sensing data for monitoring transportation infrastructure and assessing environmental impacts.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Transportation Engineering, Geography (with a focus on Transportation), or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a GIS-related role, specifically in the transportation sector.
  • Expert proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, and specialized transportation extensions.
  • Deep understanding of transportation network modeling and analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills specific to transportation challenges.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with transportation professionals.
  • Extensive experience with database management systems and transportation-related data standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of cartographic principles and transportation map design.
  • Proven experience working with data related to roads, highways, public transportation, and other transportation infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for GIS customization and automation in a transportation context.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management methodologies and transportation project lifecycles.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working directly with a Ministry of Transport (or equivalent governmental transportation agency).
  • GISP Certification (preferred).
  • Experience with transportation-specific GIS applications (e.g., Esri Roads and Highways).
  • Knowledge of transportation planning principles and practices.
  • Experience with traffic simulation and modeling software.
  • Familiarity with transportation-related data standards (e.g., National Transportation Dataset).
