Position Summary
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all aspects of cost control, estimation, measurement, and contract administration for civil construction projects. The role ensures that projects are completed within the approved budget while meeting quality and contractual requirements. The candidate must have extensive experience in civil construction, strong analytical skills, and in‑depth knowledge of commercial and contractual practices.
Key Responsibilities1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects (buildings, infrastructure, utilities, etc.).
- Develop and maintain project cost plans and budgets.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and BOQs to prepare accurate quantity take‑offs.
2. Tendering & Procurement
- Prepare tender documents, pricing sheets, and subcontract packages.
- Evaluate subcontractor quotations, negotiate rates, and finalize agreements.
- Assist in procurement of materials and services based on project requirements.
3. Measurement & Quantity Take-Off
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for all civil works (earthworks, concrete, finishing, infrastructure).
- Validate quantities submitted by subcontractors and verify site measurements.
- Maintain updated quantity logs and measurement records.
4. Contract Administration
- Assist in preparation, review, and administration of contracts in line with project and company policies.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and monitor changes or variations.
- Support claim preparation, including EoT, cost impacts, and contractual notices.
5. Cost Control & Reporting
- Monitor project costs against budget and identify variances.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial summaries.
- Review and validate subcontractor payments, invoices, and progress claims.
6. Variations & Claims
- Identify variations due to design changes or site conditions.
- Prepare and document variation orders for client approval.
- Support preparation of claims and negotiation of final accounts.
7. Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with engineering, planning, procurement, and site teams.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, and subcontractors regarding commercial matters.
- Participate in project meetings and present commercial updates when required.
8. Project Close-Out
- Prepare final accounts, reconciliation statements, and handover documentation.
- Ensure all commercial and contractual matters are settled before project close-out.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 12 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of cost control, estimation, tendering, and contract administration.
- Experience with FIDIC or similar contract standards.
- Proficiency in QS software (CostX, Candy, AutoCAD for measurement) is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering processes and construction methodologies.
