About Sunrise: Since 2015, Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center is the largest provider of homeless services in Travis County! We offer pathways to housing for people experiencing homelessness through low-barrier access to wraparound services by providing innovative, trauma-informed, and person-centered programming that engages our communities and leads system-wide transformation. Job Title: Shelter Case Manager
Position Status: Full-Time
Location: In-Person
Total Compensation: $54,000-56,000 including unlimited PTO, Health/Retirement Reimbursement, Professional Development Stipend, Connectivity Allowance

Position Summary:
The Shelter Case Manager is responsible for providing compassionate and holistic support to individuals experiencing homelessness in a shelter setting. This role collaborates with our partner shelter organization to complete housing navigation tasks, primarily but not limited to managing a caseload of people experiencing homelessness who reside in the Southbridge shelter. The case management will include the completion of coordinated housing assessments, diversion/rapid exit, goal setting, resource coordination and assisting clients and shelter staff in navigating housing referrals to community partners.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
- Bilingual (preferred).
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a shelter environment, street outreach, housing navigation, or related setting (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail with excellent time management, organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- Ability to work within a high-tolerance, harm reduction model serving individuals with multiple barriers to housing and stability.
- Ability to learn quickly and work effectively with diverse populations, partners, and stakeholders.
- Self-starter who can anticipate needs, stay ahead of deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Regularly meet with clients assigned to your caseload to build rapport, assess needs, complete goal planning, provide support, and track progress.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client progress, services provided, case notes, and other relevant data in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ income, benefits eligibility, and available housing options to develop sustainable solutions.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans aimed at securing and maintaining permanent housing for clients.
- Assist clients with housing searches, ensuring options align with their specific needs and preferences.
- Drive clients to and from services as needed to support completion of case management goals.
- Work closely with case managers and community partners to coordinate services and ensure clients’ needs are met efficiently.
- Participate in regular Sunrise staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed on best practices and organizational updates.
- Assist in the training and onboarding of new case managers, including shadowing and mentoring as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Considerations:
- There are TWO different positions being offered. One position will be Monday through Friday; shifts occur between 8am-5pm and a second position that will include shifts happening Wednesday-Sunday, 11am-7pm.
- Based out of the Southbridge shelter, located off I-35 in South Austin.
- Rotating weekend shifts, holiday shifts, or irregular hours during extreme weather events may be required, but are not anticipated at this time.
- Use of personal transportation to travel to and from locations is required; mileage will be reimbursed.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Work occurs in busy and loud environments.
- May be exposed to environmental elements such as cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor.
- May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day.
- Works under the supervision of the Shelter Program Manager as part of the Shelter Services team and collaborates with TOOF staff.
- May be required to attend various client staffing meetings in coordination with partner agencies.
