Job Purpose:
The Ship Repair Manager oversees and manages all aspects of ship repair projects, ensuring that vessels are repaired, serviced, and delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership to coordinate teams, manage client expectations, and maintain compliance with marine engineering standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Plan, organize, and execute ship repair projects from start to completion, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Prepare detailed repair estimates, work scopes, and timelines for client approval.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and lead repair teams, including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, ensuring optimal productivity and efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and motivate staff to maintain high performance and safety standards.
- Client Relations:
- Act as the primary point of contact for shipowners, operators, and classification societies.
- Communicate project status, address concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the repair process.
- Technical Oversight:
- Review and approve technical specifications, drawings, and repair methods in compliance with class, flag, and international marine standards.
- Monitor inspections, testing, and quality control to ensure all work meets contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Budget & Cost Control:
- Prepare cost estimates, control expenditures, and manage resources to achieve profitability targets.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards at all times.
- Ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS, and other relevant maritime regulations.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Develop strategies to improve shipyard efficiency, repair turnaround time, and client satisfaction.
- Identify training needs and mentor team members to build technical and managerial capability.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience: 8–12 years of ship repair, drydock, or marine engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial role.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of hull, machinery, electrical, and marine systems repair.
- Certifications: Familiarity with classification society rules (DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s, etc.) and HSE certifications preferred.
- Motivated, dependable, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment.
