SHIPPING/RECEIVING CLERK

JOB SUMMARY: Provides support for management and responsible for transportation activities. Functions as a direct point of contact for customers, drivers, contract carriers and division employees in various departments.

  • Monitor personnel or equipment locations and coordinate service and schedules.
  • Maintain accurately always described routes in process, maintain route updates, and make route changes as necessary.
  • Plan all transportation activities to optimize efficiency of facilities, personnel, supplies, and equipment.
  • Utilize various sources of communication for scheduling; including internet, e-mail and company phone system.
  • Communicate with customers or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or requests for service or equipment.
  • Prepare daily work and run schedules.
  • Document both positive and negative driver performance on prescribed forms.
  • Check paperwork prepared by drivers for accuracy and completeness, coordinate paper flow, maintain records, and analyze systems for process improvement.
  • Assist with ensuring that all shipments follow DOT rules and regulations governing drivers, interstate shipping and all other applications.
  • Prepares and produces department reports as necessary, including Bill of Lading and Loading Sheets.
  • Assists with investigations into the causes of damage or shortages in consignments or overcharges for freight or insurance.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 Years of Dispatch Experience and/or CDL Driving Experience
  • PC skills, preferably with Windows based software including MS Word 6.0 and Lotus 5.0
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations and diffuse conflicts with customers

WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • Seldom lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
  • Sitting, typing, bending, stooping, reaching, seeing, hearing, speaking.
  • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment Conform and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
  • Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment
