Superior Rigging and Erecting is a specialty crane, rigging, and steel erection contractor built on safety, discipline, and accountability. Our fabrication operations support structural steel and specialty components used in complex construction and rigging projects. The Shop Foreman plays a critical role in ensuring fabrication work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards.

Position Summary

Superior Rigging and Erecting is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to oversee daily fabrication shop operations, manage shop personnel, and ensure fabrication deliverables support project schedules and quality expectations.

This role is responsible for workforce productivity, production scheduling, fabrication quality, and maintaining a disciplined shop environment. The Shop Foreman works closely with the Fabrication Manager, Operations, Quality personnel, and project teams to ensure fabricated components meet engineering and project requirements. This position reports to the Fabrication Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Shop Operations and Workforce Leadership

  • Manage and maintain accountability for fabrication shop workforce productivity and quality of work
  • Develop daily shop production schedules in coordination with the Fabrication Manager
  • Communicate daily work plans and priorities to fabrication shop personnel
  • Maintain accountability for shop personnel time including arrival times, breaks, departure times, and overtime
  • Support hiring, training, development, and termination decisions for shop personnel in coordination with the Fabrication Manager
  • Establish and reinforce a professional, disciplined, and productive shop culture

Production Planning and Schedule Management

  • Coordinate shop deliverables to support project schedules and operational priorities
  • Monitor shop production progress and adjust schedules as necessary to meet deadlines
  • Identify potential production delays or capacity issues and coordinate solutions with leadership
  • Communicate fabrication status updates to the Fabrication Manager and project teams

Fabrication and Technical Execution

  • Interpret and work from detailed shop drawings and contract drawings to fabricate steel components
  • Identify conflicts, design issues, or constructability challenges and communicate them to appropriate stakeholders
  • Fabricate structural steel and miscellaneous steel components according to project requirements
  • Performing welding tasks with precision while maintaining required quality standards
  • Continuously improving fabrication processes, techniques, and shop efficiency

Quality Assurance and Standards

  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Quality Control personnel to ensure fabricated components meet project requirements
  • Support implementation of American Institute of Steel Construction fabrication standards within the shop
  • Ensure all fabricated components meet company and project-specific quality expectations
  • Maintain consistent fabrication documentation and inspection coordination

Safety and Shop Environment

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication shop environment
  • Reinforce safe work practices and adherence to company safety policies
  • Promote a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and professionalism within the shop
  • Ensure equipment and materials are properly maintained and organized
Requirements:
  • Minimum five years of experience managing a steel fabrication workforce preferred
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and welding techniques
  • Expert ability to read and interpret shop drawings and construction drawings
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to mentor and develop shop personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project teams and clients when necessary
  • Experience working in structural steel fabrication or heavy construction environments
  • Ability to work in an in-person shop environment
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing
