Shuttering Carpenter

Key responsibilities include measuring, cutting, and assembling wood or plywood, securing formwork, ensuring proper alignment and support, and maintaining tools and a safe worksite according to construction plans and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Reading & Interpreting Plans: Understand construction drawings and blueprints to determine the type, size, and placement of formwork needed.
  • Formwork Construction: Measure, cut, and shape wood, plywood, and other materials to create the temporary forms for concrete.
  • Assembly & Installation: Assemble the cut materials using nails, bolts, and other fasteners to construct the formwork and then install it on-site.
  • Alignment & Securing: Ensure the formwork is accurately aligned, leveled, and properly supported with props and ties to hold it in place during concrete pouring.
  • Dismantling: Remove the formwork after the concrete has set, carefully avoiding damage to the newly formed concrete structure.
  • Maintenance: Keep tools and equipment in good working condition and ensure they are cleaned for reuse.
  • Safety: Adhere to all site safety regulations and maintain a clean, safe worksite to prevent accidents.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with other construction team members and follow instructions from supervisors or foremen.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a shuttering carpenter.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading construction blueprints and using carpentry tools.
  • Physical Dexterity: Ability to lift, carry, and assemble materials and formwork efficiently.
