Job Purpose:
Develop, deploy and manage Site EHS & Environment Sustainability processes and systems for projects to meet the Annual Operating Plan for the Site whilst minimizing the EHS risks inherent to Site Operations; ensure safety and occupational health of all personnel and material; ensure an optimal environment footprint - with strict adherence to statutory & legal requirements and Cipla Global Standards & Procedures [Technical, cGMP & QMS, OHS & Env. Sustainability, Financial Control Environment and HR] .
Champion the deployment of Global EHS & Environment Sustainability Strategy at the Site by developing and driving the implementation of the Functional Strategic Capability Plan for the Site ; build functional talent pipeline & capability; drive continual improvement in functional processes & systems as well as performance measures towards “ Best in Class “ performance.
Accountabilities:

Project EHS Governance & Overall Authority (Under‑Construction Phase)
-
Act as the highest EHS authority at the project site during the under‑construction phase, with overriding authority on all safety‑critical matters involving contractors, PMC EHS teams, and third‑party agencies.

Establish, deploy, and enforce the Cipla Project EHS Plan, standards, and safety protocols across all construction, installation, and commissioning activities.

Review and approve Project HSE Plan, Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Permit to Work systems prepared by contractors and reviewed by PMC EHS.

Lead and authorize high‑risk activity reviews including:
(1)Work at height
(2)Lifting and crane operations
(3)Confined space entry
(4)Hot work
(5)Excavation
(6)Electrical works
(7) Façade and specialized construction activities

Conduct periodic site inspections, EHS audits, and behavioral safety observations to ensure effective implementation and contractor compliance.

Ensure mandatory compliance with Various Applicable Acts and codes of practice, Construction and Electrical standards, and international best practices / OSHA references where applicable.

Ensure effective systems for competency verification and authorization of contractor supervisors, operators, riggers, electricians, welders, and other safety‑critical roles.

Establish and reinforce Stop Work Authority (SWA) for all personnel at site and ensure its effective implementation.

Review and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences, ensuring closure of corrective and preventive actions.

Maintain coordination with Corporate HSE for governance, dashboards, KPIs, and reporting.

Prepare and share Monthly EHS Reports with Corporate HSE covering incident statistics, audit scores, NC closures, leading indicators, and project EHS performance.
2.Site Operations support to deliver the Annual Operating Plan

Ensure that site EHS organisation is adequately positioned and empowered for providing necessary EHS support for execution of operating plans.

Ensure EHS vigilance during routine and non-routine operations.

Ensure no business interruptions arising out of untoward EHS incidents
3.Statutory Compliance & Boundary Management
-
Ensure that all EHS licenses are available and conditions complied
-
Ensure Statutory requirement compliance as per local and National regulations
-
Oversee liaisoning with government authorities for getting Licenses within due dates
-
Monitor and adopt to changes in statutory requirements
4.
Site EHS & Environment Sustainability processes and systems

Preparation and Adherence to Project EHS Plan
-
Ensure safety improvements in new projects and major changes by Audits, HAZOP, Safety Studies and Change control system

Ensure compliance to recommendations from audits, Investigations etc.

To ensure closure of safety committee recommendation
-
Ensure emergency preparedness across Site to reduce impact of Incidences to human and property
-
Ensure timely response to emergencies
-
Ensure timely maintenance of safety equipment and maintain required spares
-
Ensure accident investigations are carried out and recommendations compliance done
-
Perform random checks of safety items and systems to ensure all time readiness
-
Coordinate with vendors for knowledge sharing about developments in Safety and vendor cost optimisation

Initiate and manage events for promotion of safety
-
Align stakeholders for safety improvements
-
Incorporate safety best practices from across sites and industries
5.Compliance to Cipla Global Standards & Procedures
-
Ensure that governance mechanism is at place for implementation of all EHS global standards.
-
System of internal audits for ensuring that implementation of standards is sustained.
-
Provide support by ensuring availability of updated documents during external EHS and GMP documents

Global Operations and Global EHS & ES Strategy Deployment

Preparation of site-specific plans to achieve Global EHSS objectives.

Obtaining necessary techno-commercial approvals

Tracking the progress of implementation plans and necessary interventions and guidance

Ensure all mandatory and role based EHS trainings are planned, executed by competent trainers, and appropriately documented.

Develop the professional competencies of the team in order to improve overall safety standards

Ensure periodic performance feedback and developmental inputs to facilitate meeting Objectives
Educational qualifications:
Graduate in Engineering with advance diploma in safety/environment.
Relevant experience:
8-10 years of work experience, in project and site EHS, preferably Pharmaceuticals
