Job Description:

About the Role:

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Data Centres will provide strategic technical expertise and leadership in the design and execution of data centre projects. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver world-class, efficient, and sustainable data centre solutions aligned with client objectives and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and engineering of data centre projects from concept through detailed design and commissioning.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in areas including architecture, MEP systems, electrical distribution, cooling systems, controls, and redundancy planning.
  • Ensure compliance with global data centre standards such as Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, BICSI, and TIA-942.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and discipline leads to optimize performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Drive innovation in energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational resilience in data centre design.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies for power, cooling, and monitoring systems.
  • Provide peer review and technical validation for engineering deliverables.
  • Support business development teams with technical inputs, proposals, and client presentations.
  • Mentor and guide design engineers to strengthen in-house data centre expertise.
  • Interface with clients to understand requirements, present design concepts, and ensure technical alignment throughout project stages.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 25+ years of experience in data centre design, engineering, or commissioning within a consulting or EPC environment.
  • Proven experience in Tier III or Tier IV data centre projects (concept to handover).
  • In-depth understanding of electrical systems (UPS, switchgear, generator, PDU), mechanical systems (CRAC/CRAH, chiller, cooling towers), and integration of control and monitoring systems (BMS, EPMS).
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, IEEE, ISO, Uptime Institute).
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Certifications such as Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD), Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), or similar will be an advantage.
