Social Media Coordinator

Position Summary

Friends of the Everglades (FOE) is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Social Media Coordinator to join our Communications team. This new position will play a key role in expanding our digital presence and engaging audiences across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and emerging channels. Reporting to the Communications Director, and working closely under the guidance of the Multimedia Producer, the Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for developing, scheduling and monitoring content that elevates our mission and strengthens community engagement.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000; Full-time/Exempt

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day posting and scheduling of content across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X/Twitter, Bluesky, LinkedIn and others as identified).
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director and Multimedia Producer to develop and execute content calendars and campaigns.
  • Create and adapt engaging copy, visuals and short-form video content optimized for each platform.
  • Monitor, moderate and respond to community comments/messages in alignment with organizational voice and values.
  • Track analytics and prepare regular reports on social media performance, engagement and growth.
  • Stay current on social media trends, best practices and platform updates; bring forward recommendations for innovation.
  • Support campaign launches, events and advocacy efforts through tailored digital content.
  • Assist with photo/video shoots, editing and other multimedia tasks as assigned.

Expanded Content & Partnership Responsibilities

  • Provide logistical and creative support to summer communications interns.
  • Help cultivate partnerships with social media influencers, artists and volunteer creators to broaden audience reach and storytelling.
  • Assist in establishing relationships with freelance photographers and coordinating outreach as needed.
  • Support continuity of Communications functions during absences of other communication team staffers.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational or professional social media accounts.
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills with attention to accuracy and tone.
  • Proficiency with social media scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Later, or equivalent).
  • Basic graphic design and video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Creative thinker with an eye for visuals and trends.
  • Commitment to the mission of Friends of the Everglades and interest in environmental advocacy.
  • Flexibility to post or monitor content occasionally outside of standard business hours in coordination with the Communications team.

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Experience with paid social media campaigns and Ads Manager.
  • Familiarity with SEO basics and content optimization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 1–2 years managing social media for an organization, campaign or brand (internships or part-time roles may count).
  • Proficiency in standard office software and willingness to learn FOE’s systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) applicants strongly preferred.

Work Location

  • Position may be structured as remote or hybrid (TBD). Some in-person availability at FOE’s offices in Stuart will be required for events, training, staff gatherings and multimedia projects.
  • Occasional travel for events, meetings or multimedia assignments (Everglades, South Florida region), will be required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position is primarily office and computer-based but may occasionally require assisting with field activities such as supporting a photographer or attending events. These duties can involve carrying light equipment or materials (up to 25 pounds), walking or standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in variable weather conditions. Benefits

We were founded in 1969 by Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a journalist, equal-rights activist and author who wrote the seminal book The Everglades: River of Grass. Our growing team is passionate about protecting what remains of the Greater Everglades ecosystem.
