Affirmative Spaces specializes in providing culturally informed, affirmative care to Queer People of Color (QBIPOC Therapy), with extensive training in working with Black and Brown Queer Folx. Our mission is to provide quality care that’s culturally grounded and rooted in the belief that everyone deserves healing and the opportunity to experience joy.

Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, motivated, culturally and socially conscious Social Media Intern to join our team. This role is ideal for a college student passionate about digital storytelling, branding, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations, and community engagement. The intern will manage and grow our social media presence across platforms, ensuring our voice on socials aligns with our mission of supporting Black and Brown Queer communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and post social media content (graphics, posts, stories, reels, etc.) across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook, etc.
  • Create engaging, affirming, and culturally relevant content that reflects our practice
  • Grow and manage our social media following, boosting visibility
  • Track analytics and engagement to improve reach/strategy
  • Collaborate with leadership to align branding and messaging with organizational goals
  • Stay informed about social media trends and best practices in digital community building

Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media platforms and creating digital content
  • Familiarity with growing a social media following and boosting engagement
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Black and Brown Queer communities
  • Strong communication skills and creativity
  • Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines
  • Currently enrolled in college/a student (preferred)

Compensation

  • This is a stipend-based internship, provided each semester

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools such as Hootsuite or Buffer is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of SEO principles and keyword research techniques.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail for proofreading content.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing individual tasks effectively.
  • A background or coursework in marketing, communications, graphic design, or related fields is desirable.
  • Experience or interest in digital marketing strategies including branding and relationship management is beneficial.
  • A passion for photography and video editing skills are advantageous. This internship is designed for individuals looking to build their skills in social media marketing while contributing to meaningful projects within our organization.
