<Job Summary>
Do you like sports as much as we do?

We are looking to add a sports reporter/editor to our team at the Carroll Times Herald, a twice-weekly newspaper in central Iowa.

In this role you’ll cover every aspect of high school sports from previews to game stories to post-season wrap-ups. Football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, track, cross county, swimming, wrestling… if the school offers it we cover it

You’ll produce accurate, engaging game coverage and feature stories for our print edition while also creating timely digital content for our website and social media platforms. You will capture short video clips and highlights from games and events to enhance digital coverage and help promote the print edition.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who works well on deadline, is comfortable working evenings, and enjoys being an active presence in the community. Strong writing, interviewing, and basic video skills are essential, along with a genuine enthusiasm for local sports and community journalism.

<Responsibilities>

• Develop and oversee engaging sports content that aligns with our editorial standards and audience interests.
• Write clear and accurate articles following AP style .
• Edit and proofread articles for accuracy, grammar, style, and factual correctness before publication.
• Photograph games or coordinate with photographers to produce high-quality visual content.
• Manage social media channels by sharing breaking news, highlights, and engaging updates to grow our online community.

<Qualifications>

• Experience in journalism or sports media with portfolio of published work.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in AP style and experience with editing and copy editing processes.
• Skilled in photography, videography, and video production techniques to create multimedia content.
• Exceptional communication skills for collaborating with team members and interviewing sources.

Pay: $41,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
